Question about Canon PowerShot S3 IS Digital Camera
Camera still takes pictures and I can see them in the review mode but there is no LCD image for picture-taking mode.
use DISP button to switch between viewfinder and LCD
or read the manual

Testimonial: "I've had this camera for 6 years and NEVER used that DISP button. Must have accidentally hit it. I'm kind of an AutoFocus camera user... the details are too much to keep track of. Thanks very much."
SOURCE: no image in the LCD, its black
restore the factory settings
turn camera on, press the menu button for 5 seconds and the default setting comes up. select ok and it all goes back to normal. I think that the exposure was wrong, therefore not letting enough light so the screen always appeared black.

This model has had problems with the CCD element that acts as the eye of the camera. I would recommend that you return the camera to Canon in New Jersey and let them replace it at no charge to you. Good luck to you. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org

With the power off, hold the camera in your palm and smack the front of the camera on your leg or arm. You might have to smack it a few time to get it to work. It has to do with the camera CDD lense (shuttle) being stuck. By smacking it around, it will free up the lense. Being extra gentle with it though. It worked for me. Hope this help.

There is recall on this model for this problem, Go to Canon USA web site, Look up Service advisory, CCD malfunction N/C to repair.
