To whom it shall concern:
We uninstalled the "AOL Desktop" application, yet the desktop is purely white in background, and cannot be changed nor does it seem to display the background choosen.
It seems that when it boots up we see the proper desktop background, then before we get access to Windows it goes white, and we cannot change it.
On the aol optimized pc u cannot uninstall the desktop it needs to be deavtivated from the main screen f10 reboot and do a quick format recovery to bring it back to manufactured mode after the desktop loads in the upper left hand corner it will show desktop options then deactivate. After you should be able to uninstall it.

Re: AOL Optimized PC - desktop acting odd
I'm not sure how to change it but I have a suggestion that might work. Here are the steps to try:
Go to START
type in msconfig
In the next window that pops up, select STARTUP tab
Check in there and see if any startup item belongs to aol.
Uncheck all those belonging to aol.
Click apply, then click Close.
It will ask to restart.
Click on restart and see if it still happens when it loads up windows again.

so i would uninstall aol. start>control>add or remove programs, then click on aol and uninstall.
for internet explorer i would right click on the desktop, select properties, click on the tab that says desktop, then click the button at the bottom that says customize desktop. in there, there might be a check box next to internet explorer. if you check the box and push ok it will be on the desktop. if it doesnt show up it should still be in start>all programs and near the end it should be there. if it is on the desktop, right click on the icon, choose properties, click on the tab that says connections, in there, there should be like three options with little round check spots next to them. if you can, choose the one that says never dial a connection. see if that stuff helps.
you do not need aol software to run your computer aol is software not hardware, it is not the operating system windows is start it in safemode and take it off
First create a backup using the backup feature insted of the system restore as that is a iso image not the actual byte for byte backup and then uninstall aol then go to windows live onecare and run a cleanup scan it will fix the registry. I HIGHLY suggest you do not tamper with the reg. as you can really hurt your system! Registry knowledge takes us techs. a while to learn so be safe, not sorry www.safecompute.org
