Sometimes the wires for the speakers break... just take the laptops panel above the keyboard out, remove keyboard, unplug the 4 white and black wires, and repair the break... Takes about 10 minutes to do! and you'll get your sound back.. Dell had a small design flaw there, but you'll get the speakers running easily! Same thing happened to my Inspiron 700M..... You can splice the wires and fix it yourself!

Have you checked the front/side of the laptop to make sure there is no volume wheel? If that is OK, then the laptop when turned on should show a speaker icon on the bottom right corner of the screen. If that is not there then it means the sound driver is not installed.

Dell inspiron 700m no sound

You may have the well known issue just as I had which is the lines running up the left side from keyboard to screen which are supposed to go to the speakers easily break because they are very small and they break from just the opening and closing of the screen. It's no worry I dug it all out and still just went on Amazon and got a USB audio speaker/headphone interface for $8.
Here's what I got and I am very happy....you will save a lot of time to just grab this now... Trust me. I would never suggest if I didn't like it and have used or owned it. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00BP2REBK/ref=pd_aw_sims_8?pi=SL500_SS115

No sound from the speakers with my dell laptop inspiron 700m I trouble checked everything.I have the sound when I plug my headset. Is it a sound card or a driver problem? Can I download another driver?...

Fred if you get sound to your headset from the same port you get no sound for your speakers, it is the speakers and not your headset. Are there any speaker lights on at all? If not maybe your power supply for the speakers is bad.Try a different set of speakers in the same computer and see what happens. If they work, the speakers are bad. Otherwise you have some strange connection problem.

Internal speakers do not emit sound but I can hear w/ headphones

I have a 700m, so I'm real familiar with the system. I see one of 2 possibilities. The headphone jack has a switch that disables the on-board speakers, if that is stuck or broken, then the jack/switch must be replaced. (Big hassle)

The other is easier to troubleshoot, then connection from the speakers to the MB goes through the Right hinge cover. Take the hinge cover off, check for broken wires (I has one, ***** to splice too)
