Installation of Car Seat base

Hello, We are trying to install the car seat base in a vehicle and are unable to locate where the clips from the belt attached are to be fastened. Any help you could give us would be greatly appreciated. We purchased the stroller new and it came without the instruction manual. Thanking you in advance Connie

Thank you for the link. It was very useful. However, we are still confused as to where to connect the clips that are attached to the car seat base. There is a black strap with adjustable belts that have clips on the end.

The attachment of the actual seat belt is simple enough to figure out as they give clear instructions with pictures. They do not mention the ones attached to the actual base.

We checked in the trunk to see if there was a location to attach them and found nothing.

Is it possible that they are not needed if the seat belt is used to secure the base? It does not seem very stable with just the seat belt.

    Thanking you in advance

I recognize that it has been months since you posted your question. Hopefully you figured out how to install your seat already, but just in case you haven't... Your car seat will be much tighter if you use the LATCH straps - the black ones with the clips on th ends. You don't normally use them in addition to the seat belt, but instead of. To find out where to hook them you need to look at the manual that goes with your car. If your car is older than 2001 or 2002 then it is possible there is no place to attach the LATCH belt. Car seat bases just don't get as tight as regular car seats. It is frustrating. You can have a tether hook installed into your car for latching the tether strap of your car seat. Not all infant car seat bases come with a tether strap, but convertible car seats do. You could get a convertible seat and use it rear facing if you are not satisfied with how the infant seat attaches to the base. Good luck! Michelle

Here are some tips for added protections on your car seats

  • Many times this type of car seat comes with a base that a carrier latches into. This actually makes installation easier because you are dealing with a rather small piece of plastic. The base and carrier should only go in the back seat, preferably in the middle, although this is not a hard-and-fast rule.

  • You might need to place a shortened swimming noodle (one of the only materials CPS has certified) to level out the base, which should lie at a 45-degree angle with the carrier installed. Some manufacturers make bases that are adjustable.

  • Make sure the carrier straps are tight and the harness clip is even with the baby's shoulders or armpits. Also make sure the straps are in the slot that lines up just above or closest to the infant's shoulders.

  • If the child is still a bit wobbly in the seat due to her size, place rolled receiving blankets or towels along each side. This provides additional support and cushion. However, do not place anything under the harness straps.

  • When the carrier is snapped into the base, the handle should be out of the way. Place it in the down position.

  • Some older vehicles (especially those manufactured prior to 1997) may require the use of a locking clip. This is a small piece of metal that looks like the letter "I" on its side. Certain vehicles do not have seat belts that lock when the brakes are slammed. The clip locks the seat belt and prevents extra slippage in the event of an accident.

I washed my daughters graco car seat and now i havent a clue of how to put it back together and i need re assemble it fast please help

Proper installation of a car seat is imperative to protectan infant. Accidents do happen and assuring that the instructions forinstallation of the Graco Infant Restraint/Carrier are followed will increasethe chances of preventing injury or death as a result of an accident. Graco carseats are a popular choice among parents due the availability of products atcommon retail stores, affordability and user-friendly baby gear.Graco Car SeatInstallation
Step 1
Plan to secure the infant seat facing the rear inthe middle of the back seat. If a center position is not available, positionthe seat directly behind the driver's side seat. For safety reasons, therestraint should not be placed in a position where there is an air bag. Ensurethat the proper vehicle lap belt system is in place; manually adjusted lapbelts, automatic locking retractor lap belts and lap/shoulder belts withlocking latch plates are all considered safe for use with the Graco InfantCarrier/Restraint.Step 2
Remove the carrier from the Graco car seat baseby squeezing the lever at the rear of the restraint and lifting the seat up.Place the base in the vehicle facing the rear. Thread the vehicle shoulder andlap belts through openings at the end of the base without twisting the belts.Secure the belts by placing plastic tongue over the belts. Tighten the vehiclebelts by pushing down on the base and pulling out any slack.Step 3Install locking clip to secure shoulder and lapbelt together just above the seat belt buckle. Connect the two belts with thelocking clip. Buckle the lap belt system and tighten by pulling out any slack.Ensure that car seat base is secure by pulling and pushing on it; the baseshould not move sideways, forward or backward.Step 4
Place the Graco carrier in the base. Push down onthe restraint until it clicks and locks into the base. Set the infant in therestraint for travel and place harness straps over the baby's shoulders. Clickthe chest place together over the sternum and lock the buckles into placebetween the legs.Tipsand Warnings
  • Contact local police departments, hospitals and fire departments to inquire about child car seat safety checks
  • Graco Infant Restraint/Carrier will not protect against serious injury or death if not installed properly. Always read the Graco owner's manual that comes with product prior to attempting installation and travel with an infant.

How can I un-stick a stuck seat belt. It worked fine last time we used it and does not seem to be twisted. 2001 chevy blazer

If it is stuck in the seat belt clip (meaning its buckled) then that model year had a seat belt buckle recall for failure. If its stuck in the seatbelt retractor and your seatbelt retractor is floor mounted there is a release pin on the ratchet gear. TO access it you will need to remove the plastic cover located at the floorboard next to the door on the side of the car that is stuck. If its a seat mounted retractor this means the retractor mechanism is located within the seat frame. You will need to view the bottom of the seat of the belt and see the anchor point. Seatbelts must be anchored to frame of car. Trace it into the seat back. If its located in the back of the seat you will need to remove the seat cover to the extent to reach the mechanism. This can be located at the bottom of the seat.. but more than likely is located at the shoulder area. The Seat cover (fabric) is removeable via clips located at the base and tucked into the seat (think hidden bra/pant clip style connectors or zipper) If you have leather seats it is a bit more detailed and more difficult to manage the seat covers. Typically your local Chevrolet dealer mechanic can get this done in 10 minutes (based one experience) and quite possibly wont charge you or charge you minimally. The downside to this is if its locked that means the same gear that locks it in an accident was frozen in place somehow and this typically indicates a dirty dirty spring or broken spring mechanism. The locking pin operates on centrifugal force and activates based on speed by which the seat belt is pulled out. (just a bit of knowledge) Good luck

Cant get it to be tight in the car install. Tried with the belt installation and with the clip installation with and without base. What is wrong with this

With car seats, you literally have to put your weight on top and get the belt as tight as possible because of the seat cushion. If you put enough weight on it, shoulder or belt strap will both work with this method.

Trouble removing snugride base from car

If the base was installed by someone who put their body weight on it to get it really tight, try to do the following:

If you are able, climb in the car and place your knee in the center of the seat base and put your weight onto it. Then, at the same time, try to pinch the clip end of the latch belt (the strap part that is attached to the car seat base) and push the clip away from you (toward the seat) to remove it from the metal latch loop/ring (the part of the latch system that's actually part of your car).

If this doesn't work, you can try to loosen the strap a little while leaning on the base, and then try to push the clip forward and out of the latch ring.

How to install infant car seat

The two clips are both for the LATCH system - they're not top tethers (which go to the back of the seat for forward facing seats only).

You need to choose EITHER the LATCH installation OR the seatbelt installation - doing both together can put too much stress on the belt path of the seat, causing the plastic to weaken.

If your car has the LATCH system, there will be two metal U-shaped anchors in the seat, where the seat back and the bottom of the seat meet. Some cars only have them for the side seats, not the middle, so check your car's owner's manual - if you don't have them specifically for the center seat, you'll have to either install with the seatbelt or put it in a side seat to use the LATCH - don't try using one anchor from each side, as they won't be the proper distance apart.

If you'd prefer to use the seatbelt to install, kneel with all of your weight in the seat to tighten the seatbelt. It's tight enough when it can't move more than 1 inch from side to side if you grab it at the belt path and pull it back and forth. You probably will still be able to pull the TOP of the infant seat back towards the back of the seat of the car - that's not a problem - it helps the seat to cradle the baby through an accident.

You need to have an owner's manual, though - to request a copy, contact their customer service at [email protected] or call them at 1-800-544-1108.

Maxi coso infant car seat

I don't have a link for the manual, but I am a Dad. Most the time they use the lap belt to run acrossed the center of the car seat. If your child is an infant, then they should be facing backward. Sometimes the car seat will come with a base that the infant seat locks into. You use the seat belt on the base for this kind and then lacth the infant seat into it.

Most of the time, police and fire stations will offer assistance with installing car seats properly, in case I didn't help.

Good luck!

How to install Evenflo Aura carseat into my vehicle properly

do you have the instructions?? if not goto ww.evenflo.com to get them they give you step by step directions on how to install your car seat! If you have a problem with the base not being tight and floping all over then try rolling a towel tightly and putting in the dip of your seat and then fastening the base down, I usually put to towel down then put the clip on the seat belt a little short of being able to fasten it in, so then I can put all my weight on the base and clip the latch in! It just makes it so much easier and a lot tighter then it would have been in the first place
