Could be a dirty lens on the laser pickup. A disc cleaner won't do the job and you'd probably have to take it apart and do it manually.
Better idea is you can get a new Blu Ray player for next to nothing these days.

SOURCE: DVD tray WONT OPEN

unplug it and try it again, if that doesn't work see if theres a pin hole where you can push a paper clip in by the tray area.

SOURCE: pioneer xv htd520 won't play dvds

This is a common problem for this model. It has a memory IC that must be replaced. This is a surface mounted IC that requires exceptional soldering skills to replace. I work at an authorized Pioneer service center and have repaired a good number of these for this exact problem. Unless you have great soldering skills it is not something that should be attempted to do yourself, it can cause permanent damage to the board if not done perfectly.

If you have the proper skills and soldering equipment I will be happy to give you the Pioneer part number so you can replace it yourself. If not, then you really should just take it to a service center and have a professional do this.

Let me know if you would like that part number.

SOURCE: DVD player not opening / ejecting

I have the same problem. I just want the damned thing to return my precious audio CD. I can hear a motor trying to open the tray, but something seems to be mechanically jammed.

JVC XV-S300 and XV-S500 Region Code Change

Try changing the region setting to region free.

1. Make sure there is no Disc in the tray.

2. Shut off the unit and unplug it from the AC outlet.

3. Press and Hold the "Play" and "Open/Close" keys,
simultaneously on the player and not the remote control.

4. While holding these keys, plug the AC cord back into the outlet. (TEST and CPU ver# will appear on the display)

5. Release the "Play" and "Open/Close" keys.

6. Press DVD Menu twice on the remote.

7. When the display reads s000 5858 use the up and down buttons to change the 000 to 02E.

8. Using the Left and Right arrow buttons, change the last four digits until they read 0000 for Region Free, 0101 for Region 1, 0202 for Region 2 or 0404 for Region 4.

9. Press Enter on the player.

10. Press Standby and wait 5 seconds.

11. Press Standby again. Your player is now set to the region you requested. If you find some titles do not play on the region 0 setting, you may have to hard select the appropriate region.

Pioneer dvd r/rw wont play a dvd

If your computer recognizes a disc in the drive and operates normally, Id assume you would need a DVD player or codec to be able to actually watch the DVD. PowerDVD rings a bell.
Have you tired that? I know Windows Media Player by default wont let you watch a movie without first downloading a codec.
