How can I find out if my SD card reader would take SDHC?

I have an older camcorder/camera (Panasonic PV-GS400), great device, has actually gone up in value over the last 6 years. My question is, how can I find out (other than trying it) if an SDHC card will work in its SD card slot? Read through the whole manual-it only mentions 16 or 32 bit in relation to audio (offers 12 or 16 bit, 2 channel) and later says OS environment must be 16bit or higher. Is there any other spec that will tell me if it will deal with a 32-bit medium like an SDHC card? Thanks

According to the specs it takes MMC and SD cards, so I would say it does not take SDHC cards. If it does, the marketing department would certainly have said so.

SDHC cards are electronically different and will only work in devices specifically designed for them. Older devices designed to work only with SD cards will not work with SDHC cards, no matter how much the firmware is updated.

SOURCE: Connecting camcorder to PC

USB is not for transferring video from this camcorder. What you need is a firewire cable to connect camcorder to your computer. If you don't have firewire port on computer, you need to get install a firewire card.

SOURCE: No 1384 firewire driver for Panasonic PV-GS300 camcorder

I found the recipe. To get my DV Camcorder to work using 1384 (Firewire) on my computer I did:

1. Get a good cable. If you paid less than $20 for it, you got the wrong one.
2. Ensure that the 1384 (firewire) port is enabled on your computer. Go into the BIOS setup and check to be sure. Mine was OFF!
3. If you get an error with Windows XP not being able to find your hardware, you need to get all the drivers. There are four or five of them along with a configuration file. Miss any one and you are dead. My solution was to reinstall Windows Service Pack 3. This took a long time, but fixed the driver problems.

Good luck!

The USB driver gven by the manufacturer is not installing on the Laptop. you should NOT need a USB driver with windows 7 - the USB should automatically detect the camera

I get a card error message when I install my 16 gb Duracell memory card.

The PV-GS36 uses SD cards. Your 16GB card is an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

Pv-gs35 sdhc formatting win7

SD cards go up to 2GB in size. SDHC cards go from 4GB to 32GB.

The PV-GS35 works with SD cards, not with SDHC cards. Your 1GB and 2GB cards are SD cards. Your new 16GB card is an SDHC card. While SDHC cards fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in devices not designed for them.

What is the largest size sd card I can use in my nvgs 400? thanks

SD cards max out at 2GB. Make sure you SD cards, not SDHC cards. SDHC cards start at 4GB and go up to 32GB, but they will not work in the NV-GS400.

My Acer 3692WLMi does not read my Fuji 8 gig SDHC card but it will read my Panasonic 2 gig SD card. Can someone give me an answer/solution. Thanks C

While I'm not directly familiar with this Acer model, it looks to be an older laptop. It's almost certain that it was built prior to the SDHC cards being created - a lot of older memory card readers are not able to read the High Capacity (HC) flash cards. I actually own a couple of devices that also would not read the 8GB card.

To test, I would recommend finding a newer USB SD card reader that you could either borrow or purchase (they're usually not too expensive) to see if that reader could get the information from the SDHC card.

If that works, the problem would be that your flash card reader does not support the higher volume cards. This is the most likely possibility.

If it doesn't work, there may be an actual problem with the SDHC card itself.

Hope this is helpful!

My lexar sd 4G card won't work in my camera? says card error in card record mode?

The PV-GS36 works with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot it will not work properly. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

SanDisk ULTRA II 8GB won't read when installed in a laptop. Works fine in the Digital camcorder. Trying to import the footage on to a Fujitsu tablet laptop (12 months old). Reads the standard 2Gb memory...

No, it's a hardware issue. Your 8GB card is an SDHC card (the HC stands for High Capacity), but the card reader in your machine is clearly only compatible with the older type SD cards. SDHC devices will accept SD cards, but devices designed solely for SD cards cannot read or format SDHC cards.

There is no firmware update for this, your only fix is to buy an external reader compatible with SDHC cards for connection via a USB socket. Most new readers are fully SDHC compliant, but check the specs for shelling out your hard-earned...

How to transfer PV-L780D panasonic camcorder video to PC.

For your SD card, you have to use the USB port to mini-USB port cable that came with the camera, or a card reader. Connect it to the computer, and turn the camera on. Windows XP and Windows 7 will detect it as a hard drive, and give you the options for transferring the pictures to your pc. You also have a firewall cable that you can use with the software that came with the camera. In case you need more information, you can download the manual that will tell you how here:

Please can you tell me if an SD card called SD Ultra 11 66X 2GB will be read by a standard SD card reader

Yes, i t should be unless it is a SDHC Card which it should not be as SDHC cards have minimum 4 GB capacity. For more info:

The older SD (secure digital) cards had a maximum capacity of 2GB. The SDHC (secure digital high capacity) cards can go to 32GB. Devices that support SDHC will say so in their specs and they will also read older SD card. Older devices that use SD cards will NOT use SDHC.

"SDHC (Secure Digital High-Capacity) cards are flash memory cards with a minimum capacity of 4GB (gigabytes). SDHC cards provide removable memory for compatible digital devices including cameras, camcorders, PDAs, MP3 players and more.

How to transfer the video file from my mini dv pv-gs50d to my computer

Hi!

Are you using Windows Vista or XP? Have you downloaded the correct driver and installed it on your computer?

Also, the most easiest way on how you can copy the video file from your camcorder is by taking out the SD card and then plug it in your SD card reader. It should be detected as a mass storage device.

Huge Loss Of Quality When Importing To Computer

First off, see if it has a firewire port, and if so then try to upload via firewire cable, not usb. But for any camera, you lose quality when uploading to a computer. What you could try doing is convert it to another format, this may improve quality some. Try not using widescreen, see what results you will get. Also, are you using internal memory on the camera or external (IE-SD card). From my experience, using a high quality SD card (SDHC for example) and getting a card reader (They are cheap, USB card readers about a buck on ebay) and uploading it like that, you get better quality video and pictures. Try some of these, if they don't work you can wait for another person to answer or email me.
Thanks, Aram
