Panasonic Viera not coming on and red light blinking 8 times.
I have a Panasonic Viera TC-P50U50. We have had it seven months and all of a sudden when you turn it on it immediately turns back off and the power light blinks 8 times. What does that mean and how can we fix it?

I had the same problem with my Viera. if you disconnect the power and ribbon cable from the YSUS board (check youtube for how), the light led will blink 6 times, indicating the YSUS is bad. Check ebay for TNPA5175 board (about $115-160). The "pop" is one of the DG402RP chips burnout. These are about $4, but only available from China. If you can wait a month for delivery, you can solder the new one to replace the bad one. You may want to purchase several in case more are bad or it happens again.
It is a skilled work indeed. It will be best to contact any experienced service technician to do this. Check this link and see whether can you do it by yourself or not. It has details with illustration.
