I switched my FinePix S5000 on the other day and deleted a lot of pictures using the erase all facility. When I switched it to the camera function all I got was a black screen and viewfinder as if the lens cap was on. All the icons show and all the other features work it is just that there is no image. Can someone tell me what the problem is please.

Sound like a malfunctioning
CCD-image sensor. Rare, but possible problem with your LCD screenviewer (I dont believed, if you can see Menu icons)... in both cases (LCD or CCD) this isn't a job that you could solve yourself; this wrong
images or abnormal colors, scratchy purple lines, blank or black pictures,
and/or black videos with good sound being recorded on the camera's flash
suggest check THIS LINK for additional details in this previous solutions for an Defective
CCD (Charge Coupled
Device) and next contact your Samsung service. Istrongly suggest(taking intoconsiderationthe age of yourcamera) to
evaluatethe cost ofrepairversusthe
cost of anewcamerawith similarfeatures, before making afinaldesicion.
Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate
your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about
1) switch camera to "on"
2) Using the fwd, back etc control switch, located to the right of the screen, set it to "macro"
This is the left hand side of the ring switch. (back arrow). The macro icon (looks like a flower icon)will appear in the viewfinder in the top left hand corner.
3) to cancel macro, press this "back arrow" again.Or switch the camera to off.
Why can't you put your pictures on the computer? Have you followed the directions in the manual and installed the software that came with the camera? If you don't want to do that, you could purchase a separate card reader like the one in the picture below ( about $15) and use it to download to a folder you create on your desktop. Once there, just double-click on them and they will open. Once the pictures are safely on your computer, you can erase the card in your camera by going into the menu and finding "format"...follow the on-screen instructions. Your card will be erased and you can fill it up with more pictures.

Your camera likely needs a new CCD imaging sensor. It is a cute little thing and is very expensive to replace. I've seen deals to repair any digital camera on eBay and I would check for a local repair person in your area. You can use the search on this site to see who might be close by. I have an A310 doing the same thing.
