I had a lot of video footage of my precious grandsons first 6 months, on my JVC Everio GZ-mg30 camcorder. Then after recording my friends 25th wedding anniversary party, I let my friend down load all of my footage off my JVC hard drive to my desktop computer. It appeared he had done this, I briefly played a little bit of the video of my grandson, on my computer. Before my friend copied the anniversary party to his flash drive.
When he exited my computer he didn't use the 'safe to remove.' option. He just pulled his flash drive out! He said that it had not effected the video copy he made on his flash drive. He also said, he didn't save any of the video files before turning my
computer off, as it appeared they were already saved to the computer. However now, I cannot find any of my grandson video or the anniversary on either my JVC camcorder hard drive or my computer? It has been deleted of the camcorder, as it say's there is no images on it. I have searched my doc's, my video's, DVD's and every video software program on my computer, and cannot find it anywhere! I cannot use a restore point because it was downloaded and copied in the same session on the computer. It seems to me my only hope is to retrieve it of the JVC hard drive? The video of my grandson is irreplaceable. Please, please could someone help me.
There is a way to get back those deleted video files from your digital camcorder, BUT it is just possible. Because if those deleted files has been overwritten by new files you saved in, then there is no hope. However usually overwritten cases are hard to happen as long as the hard disk(of your JVC camcorder) has enough volume.
Then, take so called data recovery program to handle the issue and see if you can grab some or all of the deleted files back. Here are some recovery software you may take a try.
If you are running Windows, try this video photo recovery program.
If you are using Mac OS X, turn to this Mac photo video recover software.
You should take care - before your files are recovered, do not save more files to the device concerned(do not take more videos or photos) in case overwritten situation will happen. I hope you good luck.
Try this:
1. Open up My Computer
2. Click on C:
3. Look for the folder "My Works"
4. Everio Back up holds your files when they are backed up. look in that folder and you'll see folders containin movies and pictures. there should be 2 or more folders in Everio back up.
My works is the primary folder Everio designate to back up or dump files whenever you connect your camcorder to your computer. Your friend pulling his jump drive from your computer shouldnt have done anything to your computer.
Let me know if that works..

Taisha, Thank you for all your help. I didn't have the JVC software on my desktop computer unfortunately, I'd had installed it on my laptops, but it was the desktop computer my friend used. After reading your advice,I have now installed the software for future potential mishaps. I recovered my precious video footage late last night by down loading ' Recuva' from filehippo.com and then used the program to recover the deleted footage from the JVC hard drive by running the deep scan option. Happily it worked, I have now downloaded my video files to my desktop computer, my external hard drive and I have enabled the 'protect files' on the camcorder, so they will not be accidentally deleted again! Thank you for your help I really appreciated it. Regards Michcarr.
I am running a deep scan now! I hope it works as I deleted precious videos of my children!
