Jeep Boombox I have a Jeep Boombox, the one that has radio and CD and Cassette, and is waterproof. I love it, and have had it several years. I dont have the book anymore that came with it. I accidently broke the removable antenna, and am trying to find a replacement, nobody seems to know how I can find one or who to ask, so I thought I would try your site for any tips....Thanks!

The laser diode is usually the first component to fail in optical disc players.
If you can, open the casing to expose the CD mechanism.
Point a cell-phone camera at the laser lens, which hides under a flat bridge.
Without a disc inserted, press play or eject / load the CD tray.
Via the camera, you should see the laser diode briefly flash as it tries to read data from where disc should be.
No flash means IR laser diode has probably burnt out.
Don't stare directly into laser beam for long periods with the ***** eye - rather use the camera as an interface.
The beam's visual color is red, but the CDS sensor of a digital camera sees the IR radiation as white on mobile's screen.
Radio Shack sells several cords typically used with boomboxes. This one, while it may not be exactly the same end as the original, works in most boomboxes. Their website says most of the cords are in the stores, so you can take the boombox with you to one and see if there's an exact match available. You can also run this boombox on batteries until you find a cord.
Looked online for a manual for unit and found them with a wide price range.Check on the web or contact JVC.Make sure you have the correct model number.
The laser is dead or damaged. Try swabbing the laser with rubbing alcohol on a Q-Tip, then IMMEDIATELY blowing dry with canned air. If this fails, the laser is dead. If it is a Sony KSS-2xx series laser (try to peek in the laser slot to see the decal on it) you can get replacements online. If not, it's junk.
Cassette players usually have a little rubber band that connects the motor to the spindles. If everything else is fine, I would suggest seeing if it slipped off somehow (or got cracked and snapped)
Any help is appreciated!!!!
