White Screen on GPS after downloading an update from TomTom Home

Can you help, the set won't accept a soft reset. This happened after downloading an update from TomTom Home. I can't even reload a previous back-up. My 'what ever happens warranty' does not include software problems!! Await your response, Maggs.

Just had the same problem. To fix it I uninstalled the existing application and reinstalled - there were two updated applications available, one for "GO, ONE and Rider" and the other for "ONE" only - reinstalled the first one again, this time installing anyway when warning about a newer version already being installed was given. If you are having problems getting unit to talk to PC, connect the USB cable to PC, press reset, remove SD card and reinsert then switch back on. TomTom Home should then see the unit and you can try the suggestions above.

I have a tomtom one n14644 I would like to update it and im not sure how

The usual way to update your TomTom GPS is using the TomTom HOME software that you download and installed on your computer/laptop. Then set up your TomTom account (using the TomTom HOME application) and registered your TomTom device (in that account) on the TomTom webiste
After that, connect your TomTom device to your computer/laptop (using the USB cable). Turn on the TomTom device, and touch the YES icon (on your TomTom screen) if it asks whether you'd like to connect to the computer.
You should be able to see the updates available for your TomTom device (on the TomTom HOME application). Select the updates you want and (download and) install them.
Recently TomTom has stopped providing software/map updates and/or support for certain (older) models of their TomTom GPS. If you see such a notice when you register your TomTom device, your option is to get a newer GPS model (you may even get an offer on the TomTom HOME screen), or you can continue to use your device without updating the software and/or maps until it becomes unhelpful, unreliable, etc.

How do i update my Tomtom 3RD Edition (1GB) GPS Systems for free i would appreciate it if you have an answer thanks.

Hi, I was having trouble too and have found the manual for the 3rd edition online
http://download.tomtom.com/open/manuals/one3rd/refman/TomTom-ONEv3-en-GB.pdf

I'm following these instructions:

Installing TomTom HOME
Install TomTom HOME on your computer in the following way.
  • Connect your computer to the Internet and then connect your TomTom ONE to your computer using the USB cable.
  • A pop-up window appears. Select Run TomTom HOME. Click OK and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • If the pop-up window does not appear, browse to the TomTom device on your computer and run the file named Install TomTom HOME.
  • TomTom HOME is also available for download from the TomTom website.
  • For more information visit www.tomtom.com/home
  • Once installed, TomTom HOME will start automatically whenever you connectyour TomTom to your computer.

Hope this helps, Lynsey

Tom Tom frozen

Hello megbert, I own a TomTom also and have had your same problem before. I have listed the procedures from TomTom Home. First try a soft reset (Reset button is located at the bottom of the TomTom device next to where the DC plug plugs in). Make sure your batteries are charged up or the USB is plugged in.

If your device is not starting up properly, follow the steps below:
  1. Soft reset your device

  2. If your device still does not start up, then reinstall the TomTom application using HOME
If you have backed up your TomTom to your computer, then you can reinstall the TomTom application from your backed up data
In rare cases, your TomTom device may not start correctly or may stop responding. If this happens, try resetting your device. A reset does not delete any data.

I guess you have the same problem I did.... I have a TomTom One 3rd Ed., and after updating it through TomTom Home, every time I turned it on, I got a blank white screen. I would have to reset it every time before I could get it to work right. If this is the same problem...go here to download the fix.
