I have a Casio Exilim EX-Z55 camera with connection problem to PC. It says the computer cannot recognize the device. I checked the device manager (WIN XP) to find the unknown device listed under the USB control directory. Both Mass Storage and PTP setup give the same results. I appreciate it if someone could help me out.
Thanks!
These comments may seem piffling but funnier things have occurred.
When a camera is connected to PC- the system recognises it as another drive and puts up a screen asking what you want to do with the pictures - that's what should happen- as I am sure you know.
But it does require the camera to be switched on
and the memory card in place.
If this is what you have done- what I suggest is you get a cheap USB card reader.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.
I ended up solving this by briefly removing the memory card and the battery from the camera, then reinserting them. This seemed to re-set everything and it then all worked well!

The problem might be your charger. I would call repairs and tell them you have a defective charger and they can check it for you. You can reach them at 800-706-2534 and then keep choosing option 1 and that will take you into Casio's repair department.
