I need to replace my hard drive.

I am not sure where it is located on this Averatec Model 3200. I need to remove it to recover data. Can anyone help? I can't find the spec sheet on it.

Thanks to the directions posted under "best solution" I was able to service my daughter-in-laws avertec 3200.

Be very careful. The screws are tiny, and there is a little white tape to remove. Watch out for the copper colored circuitry strip that runs over the hard drive. Carefully remove the white tape from the strip and the small hard drive.

I'm now off to get a replacement. Thanks again!

Hi Andei, I'm guessing, but with the laptop turned over and the battery away from, it is on the left side underneath or inline with the optical drive. You may need to remove first the CD drive in order to gain access to the hdd. I also can't find a service manual other than the user's manual (http://www.averatec.com/docs/3200_Series_Manual.pdf). Another possibility is behind the battery placement area. In some laptops I've worked with, hdd is under the keyboard which means you have to pry the kb open. If it doesn't work, you may have to ask a service personnel to do it for you. Hope this works out and pls post again how things turned up. Kind regards

Hi, Turn over the laptop, there should be several compartments: a small one that covers the RAM, one with ventilation that covers where the fan is, there's the battery and finally there is one last compartment (I'm not fully sure but I think this should be where the hard drive is located) Loosen the screws and check under there, if it's not there, please let me know, but according to the manual, it seems like this is the correct location. See the manual from this page: http://www.averatec.com/customercare/manuals.asp Good Luck

How to replace a hard drive in a Averatec 3200? Ken Weakland

After some research, I did locate the user manual for this notebook, the link is below. The manual provides a good deal of information, what it does not tell you is the location of the hard drive. Generally though, the hard drive is located on the bottom of the laptop, under one of the panels secured by screws. Also, generally, the hard drive is enclosed in a cradle with an adapter that connects the hard drive to the system board. To replace, you unplug the existing hard drive, remove the cradle and put the new drive in the cradle the plug it back in.

I hope that this puts you in the right direction to answer your question. Look at the manual, which will show you where many of the other components are located on the bottom of the notebook. This will help you narrow your search.

If you have any other questions about the process, please let me know.

Hello,

Make sure the BIOS is 'seeing' the drive. Reboot your pc, press F2 as soon as it starts to boot (Or watch your screen and the POST will display which function key to press to enter setup.) If the BIOS is NOT seeing the drive, you may need to a) replace the drivers for the dvd or b) replace the dvd rom itself. (I recommend the drivers first.) Please repost your results and we will continue to monitor your progress.

I replaced my averatec 3200 hard drive 40gb with 110gb.. does it affect the the whole system? coz sometimes it suddenly shuts down... and one more thing, whenever i run NFS game, the graphics is too...

the hard drive would cause the problem if the hard drive was bad, like if it had bad sectors on it and it couldn't write info to certain parts of the hard drive.

System shutting down on its own could be spyware or a bad hard drive would cause that as well.

As far as graphics are concerned make sure your video drivers are installed cause if there not then the graphics wouldn't be as good. Make sure you get the latest drivers from the averatec website.

If your worried about the hard drive, put in another one but make sure its a new one so you know you have the best chance of it working properly.

Buying a hard drive for the Averatec 3200 Series

I have a tip. Don't forget to set up the drive as master or slave (depending on what you want the drive for). I personally have forgotten to double check this on numerous occasions (its always the simplest thing you overlook with everything) only relizing when I have the case screwed back on and am trying to boot the drive up.
