I have an Onkyo Av Mod# TX-DS484. The sound is out, all other functions work normally. I did notice that preceeding the failure the sound amplification seemed to be failing (had to turn it up). Is there a fuse or some other similar thing I should check?

As far as the left speaker goes, swap it to decide if it's the speaker, wire or the amp channel. There are no control settings that would make one of the front pair go silent.

I don't have a separate manual for the Onkyo RC-427S. However there are several pages on this remote in the TX-DS484 receiver manual.

buy an attachment at Radio Shack - Ipod cable to 3 rca cables; plug the rca cables into the
CD input; leave the video cable hanging. It is not a charger, so you will need to re-charge your ipod.

Did you set all your parameters (see manual, page 15)? After that, you can then also change the levels of each speaker (page 16) also.
