Question about Panasonic PT-51HX40 51" Rear Projection Television

2 Answers

Color shift Panasonic Model PT-51HX40. The problem I have is that the green color is seperate from the the other colors, producing two pictures. From what I've seen in this forum so far, I would suspect that one of the IC's blew. This problem occurred last night, I turned on the set and then it shut itself off about one minute later, thirty seconds later I could smell an electrical component burning. The questions I have: Is there an IC for each color? If there is, how can I identify which one is for which color? Does anyone have a schematic for this model? The set is 6.5 yrs old, I've been happy with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Paul

There is going to be 2 ICs. Both should be replaced at the same time.

Picture moved over and now no picture, only circular colored lines

A photo posted here and verify the model number would help to know what you have.

Hi,Yes your problem sounds like the DMD board. This is how it works: http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/dlp1.htm Basically the light of the lamp goes through a tunnel that carries a color wheel(rotating disc with a gamma of colors that creates the colors on your tv)then the light of the lamp goes through the DMD board which is a chip composed of around 2 million pixels that creates the images and colors. When it starts to fail it will create black bars, pixelation, color distortion or white dots on screens. You will need to replace the DMD board. Have a blessed one!

Hello, my problems consists of a arch on top and bottom of picture aswell asthe colors not lining up in these areas . same in picture in picture. the very middle of the screen seems to be lined up. ...

Hello gabes760,

The problem with your Tv might be the convergence corrcetion amplifier modules (2  STK392-110). These modules often malfunction and produce the symptoms you are describing. The cost of the parts is about from $12.00 - $32.00 depending on where you buy the parts from. The major cost will be the labor, and if needed the cost of installing the biasing circuitry that the modules use. This usually costs around $200.00 - $400.00 depending on the shop.

I hope this helps

Thank You,

Multi color snow

The most common problems with Panasonic's is the "DG" board. It usually is not the leat expensive module to replace and cannot be repaired it has to be replaced.
