Have a Pioneer PDR-W839 home cd player/recorder with jammed
3-disc tray-type changer. Won't open no matter what I do and
just keeps clattering away while trying to open with no
success until display finally shows an "E2" error code. Has
anyone out there had experience with this specific problem
and if not then do you think it's a self-fixable mechanical
problem by someone decent with his hands but with no prior
home audio component repair experience? Or alternatively do
you think it's an electronic problem that would be better
handled by a professional? Any advice and/or thoughts would
be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your assistance!
Problem update as of May 25: Contrary to the thought that this is a purely mechanical problem, I'm now thinking it could be an electronic malfunction. When unit is powered-on, disc changer automatically activates and then goes through aforementioned malfunction, all without pressing any other control buttons except for "power". Additionally, I was eventually successful in cleanly opening/closing all 3 trays in sequence for 2-3 cycles on 2 or 3 separate occasions, further leading me to believe the problem might not be mechanical. So again, any advice and/or thoughts before I seek professional help locally, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again to all for listening!!!Problem update as of May 25:

Wow, would've thought it'd be that simple, but I don't see any pinhole on the exterior of the unit. Should I remove the cover and look for it inside, and if so then in what area of the interior would it most likely be located? Thanks for taking the time to address my problem; I'll wait for further instructions.Wow, would've thought it'd be that simple, but

Mike, you will have to take machine apart and locate drawer release pin or take a chance and pry on drawer with butter knife while continually pressing eject button. Check links below for more methods of opening CD drawer. press the helpful button
If one of the discs slipped off its tray and got jammed, you will have to take the cd changer out of the car and dislodge the jammed cd.
I had this happen a few years back and the guys at the auto parts store helped me remove it for free.
It relates to the failure of the loading section. So check on the linking wires/flexible strip to the load motor- this is a ccommon fault and is seen most of the time.
Secondly the tray with CD can get strck due to a faulty disc- being warped. if so manually retrieve and reset.
finally there is a tiny hole near to the eject which can reset the changer if this has hung up or is jammed.
Open the covers and probe.
sounds like the tray inside was misaligned when the cd went in. and it probally sent the disc into a occupied slot. you will have to remove radio and disassemble to repair. also try just unpluging radio and plug back in. sometimes it resets the radio and will start ejecting the cds
just opened the dvd player..took out the jammed cd and it's working properly now...saved me 55$ for a check or was advised to buy a new one costing 400 odd $!
hello poopig1,
after further review, I meant to describe this:
look for a pinhole in the area of the CD tray to insert a pin...similar to the same pinhole you see on a PC's cd player to eject the tray manually. If there is none, then try this: Open the cover and find the motor that, when turning, performs the tray ejection. Then, turn that motor by hand until the entire tray (or cartridge) is ejected. Then power up and observe the events.
