When I turn my camera on and look through the view finder, I see nothing but black with white lines moving horizontally. It looks almost like an old television when you were trying to tune in a channel. :o)
TIA,
Tee

Thanks jackboy. If Nikon does not repair it, as promised, at no charge, I will not pay to have it repaired. The camera is two years old. Thanks jackboy. If Nikon does not repair it, as promised, at no charge, I will not pay to have it repaired. The camera is two years old.

Re:
Screen or main board failure.
If it is still under warranty you may have a chance
bit if over a year or so old - not worth considering for repair- though you could try.

Does it work at all with out the view finder? If it does work completely then you can use the camera without the view finder. Point and shoot and the more you use it the better you get at it. Good Luck
You should go into the menu, camera settings and set the evf to on. EVF stands for electronic view finder. This can be set to be on when the lcd is open or closed. CAreful, if the evf is set to on and you point the viewfinder towards the sun, it will burn white marks into the viewfinder and ruin it.
canon has a recall on this camera. call them and they will send you a box to send it back. If you are one of the lucky ones the will send you a canon s5is back...really nice camera
Depends on the age- If it is under warranty then send back to the vendor or maker. If out of warranty - then no - insofar a likely repair charge if possible will cost nearly as much as new camera
If the view finder shows the same white display. You probably have display circuit problem in the camera. Faulty CCD chip usually shows Black screen so it probably board problem or a connector problem. If you see an image through view finder then you may have defective connection from board to LCD assy. Either way it need to be looked at by a trained technician. Good luck.
