My scanner quit being recognized by the computer. Now all I get is a "scanner not intialized" error message. I have tried reinstalling the software and that did not resolve the problem. I am using XP-Pro. Thanks in advance for any ideas.

With XP, no problem. Uninstall the scanner from the computer, and then reinstall it. It should work fine.
With later Windows (Vista or 7), I believe that your scanner does not yet have a working driver. Anyone else know of an available driver for either of these... please chime in.
Most likely the destination folder for the scanning is a shared folder with limited rights. As the administrator, reset the permissions for that folder or redirect the software to a common folder with read/write/creation etc... access.
Also, make sure you are using the HP provided drivers and not those from Microsoft.
I lost the CD of the hp jst scanner 6200c, but i down loaded the program on line. However, when I scan nothing appears on the screen and the scanner makes a lot of noise. The light does go on on the scanner but it doesnt scan i get a blank
