Just took the 501 out of storage and when I receive or copy, the print always has areas of missing information, like something is on the drum. (runs all the way down the page) I've changed the drum and toner and it's in the same place on both drums.
Is their a glass area where the laser reads that could be crudded up?
Any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Jim
Remove the drum unit from the machine, you will see a glass called **** glass under the drum unit. if that glass is dirty, just clean it with alcohol and cotton.
white lines is the cause if that part is dirty.

Try making a copy on your machine and see what the copy looks like.
What are you sending,??? if its a second carbon copy of something...remember what you see is what you get...if the original is poor quality the receiver will get poor quality. You can darken the image slightly...refer to your operators manual.
I will look it up in the morning, I don't have that information with me at the moment, But there is a scanner calibration you can do to correct it. You have to enter some codes and simply run white paper through the scanner to reset the values. But off hand I can't remember the exact numbers. I will get look them up and send it on here. It is not hard to do at all. Will take about 2 or 3 minutes.
If the output quality has improved greatly, you may have selected the "High" quality instead of "Normal". The front panel should give you a clue as to how to adjust.
Hav you replaced with original cartridges or 3rd party/refilled ones? This is a common problem when using generic/refilled cartridges. Let me know that first..
When you say poor quality, do you mean faded printouts, or broken print? Kindly explain in detail, so I can assist you further.
If you can copy ok you have effectively ruled out your machine as you have used both the scanning and printing mechanism of the machine.
It will probably be the fax on the other end as if it sends a poor quality page that's all your machine can receive, a poor line can also cause problems if it is from multiple faxes. If so have your provider check the line (you probably hear static on the line).
