TURN IT ON.... MAKE SURE THE VOLUME IS LOUD ENOUGH TO HEAR.... TURN THE SQUELCH UP TO MAKE NOISE...THEN TO THE LEFT SLOWLY TO WHERE THE NOISE STOPS. THAT'S ALL..... EASY.
You've probably already done this, but make sure all the basic settings are correct. CB-PA switch is in CB mode, Squelch is turned to the left, RF Gain is turned to the right, etc. After all that, and you still have nothing, I would try using another microphone. If you have a spare mic or a friend with a spare mic, borrow it. Just make sure its wired the same as yours is. (If it's a cobra 4-pin, it most likely will work.) Now if that doesn't fix it, then the most likely problem is in the MIC/AUDIO circuit. You'll need someone with experience to replace the necessary parts. In radio troubleshooting, always start with the basics: Correct Connections Proper input Voltage (Power) Correct Settings (Vol, Sql, RF-G, etc) Antenna (properly matched) I hope this helps a little...
I just saw your message and the problems you have been having, from your description you have managed to get everything sorted out and working. I to have been into cb's for many years and enjoy the challenge tinkering with the system and I congradulate you on a job well done.
Vibrations on the small cb's make the internal circuit boards come loose and its intermitted or will not RX or TX.. Check the antenna with another cb. using an SWR METER.. or have someone check it.. SWR should be free if you take it to them.. to check.. Make sure the antenna, mounts, and coax are ok.. if soo then its in the cb itself .. Email us if you need more help or need the radio looked at, the post office has flat rate boxes cheap nowadays. were in Temple, TX at the CB SHop.
It means either the knob or something in the squelch circuit has gone bad. Doesn't mean that you cannot use the radio, you will just hear static all the time when no one is talking. If the static bothers you, you can always back the RF gain down a bit. That will quiet the noise, but lower you receive range. meaning you won't hear as far away.
there may be a very low noise level. If the noise level is low you will hear almost nothing. You need to go on ch 19 and drive near a major interstate.
Key up and say, "Break one nine for a radio check" and a trucker will come back and tell you its working. If you hear him okay, then your radio is working fine.
Some days, background noise is heavier and lighter then others.
