SOURCE: Display reads "No Card"

Zoom h4 supports cards up to 2GB. And, I'm almost sure, this is a thing that can't be upgraded through software.

SOURCE: Mac OS 10.4.11 does not recognize the Zoom H4 recorder

Mac OS 10.4 and higher require the Zoom H4 to be upgraded.
Go to  http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php#a  and choose the download to version 2.20 that applies to you. The instructions are there, but it is a little tricky. You must download the upgrade to your computer and then transfer it to your Zoom SD card.  To do that you need an SD card reader.  I used my digital camera. I took the SD card out of the zoom and put it in the digital camera. I Plugged the camera into the computer and when the SD card icon appeared on the desktop I dragged the "System Bin" file from the download to the zoom folder.  The rest of their instructions were pretty good.   Good Luck.

SOURCE: upload recordings from zoom h4 to ipod

if you are using a Mac running Leopard (Sys 10.5), you need to upgrade the H4  firmware from Zoom website
http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php

You will need an external SD card reader.
Once you do this, you can them plug in the Zoom to the mac with a usb cable, then select Connect to PC with the jog wheel.
The disc should show up on you desktop, and then you can download the files - (Should be in the folder marked STEREO)
Good Luck

I am having the same problem with my Zoom-H2. I have 2 2650 mah rechargeables, and the draw is such that 20-30 minutes of record &/or playback kills the batteries. Last night I just turned the power on and did nothing. 5 hours later the batteries were dead...

SOURCE: zoom h4 Vista recording

Don't know if this is the problem in your case ... but here's what I did:
Note: I have Win XP
Previous to attempting connection between laptop and H4 as an audio interface I updated the H4 firmware to ver2.4 and connected to the laptop successfully as a card reader. From the laptop, I could see files I knew were on the H4 card.
... but when I tried connecting in Audio I/O mode, my laptop didn't know what to make of the H4. There was a USB mass storage driver associated with the H4 - I could see this from the "Device Manager". I "uninstalled" the USB driver associated to that "unknown" USB device. I terminated the audio connection on the H4, then reconnected. !!! It was recognized as "USB Audio Device" in the "Sound, video and game controllers" section of the "Device Manager". Before, it was listed under "Universal Serial Bus controllers" as a generic USB device with a yellow warning highlight indicating there was something wrong.
Hope this helps!

The green screen has no lettering on it, the Zoom H4 powers up and screen lights but no lettering is seen

If the green screen on your Zoom H4 recorder is not displaying any lettering, it could be due to a few different issues. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:
  1. Make sure the contrast setting on the device is adjusted properly. If the contrast is too low, it could cause the lettering to be difficult to see. Try adjusting the contrast using the device settings.
  2. Check the battery level. If the battery is low, it could cause the device to function improperly, including the screen not displaying properly. Try charging or replacing the battery.
  3. Reset the device to its factory settings. This will erase any custom settings and configurations you may have set up, but it can sometimes help to resolve any software issues. To do this, hold down the "+" and "-" buttons at the same time while turning the device on.
  4. If none of the above solutions work, there may be a hardware issue with the device's screen or internal components. In this case, it's best to contact Zoom support or bring the device to a repair professional.

Hi! I placed a bid on Ebay, on a used Zoom H4 and didn't read the fine print! I now notice that the seller says that the condition is good, but the battery operation doesn't work - it only works with the...

Usually the problem will be with the battery contacts. Often corrosion due to leaving batteries in too long or the spring contacts, don't. Another harder thing is the adapter connector often has a spring blade that contacts the center pin when adapter is unplugged to switch to battery. These get bent and are a chronic problem for devices that use either adapter or battery.

My zoom stop recording after one hour with plenty of memery on my 16 gig sd card

Which firmware do you have? It should say on the screen when you turn it on. If it 1.10, or 1.0, you need to update the firmware by going to the Zoom support page:
http://www.zoom.co.jp/english/download/software/h4.php
Directions and firmware download is all there.
If you are already on 2.0 or 2.4, then try reformatting the card with the Zoom. This will delete anything on the card, so backup first!! Good luck.

Zoom H4 does not power up on battery power.

Probably two years too late, but I recently got a used H4 and it was having this same issue. Upon reading the documentation, it seemed as though it required a specific type of AA batteries. If you update the firmware (mine was 1.3) to the latest version (currently 2.4), you can toggle the battery type under the menu (most likely alkaline is what you want). It also added lots of other great features!

Zoom H-4

Ask your dealer, the one you bought it from. They may suggest an easy fix or guide you best on how to get it repaired, or at the very least suggest a place near you to have it repaired. If your dealer doesn't know, ask any Zoom dealer for repair info. Meanwhile, I assume you've checked your battery compartment to make sure the terminal connections are not loose (and of course that you've tried new batteries - :) ). Also, check Menu>Battery to see if alkaline or nickel batteries is checked. Finally, try removing your SD card and re-inserting, (even re-formatting the card, perhaps, but trying merely re-inserting first). But make sure any songs/info on the card are backed up first, because you will lose info if re-formatting the card. (For that matter, you could try a new card.)

Zoom H4, Won't upload to Cubase Le.

Hi Ken,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble uploading the recordings from your Zoom H4 to the Cubase LE software. Have you tried connecting the Zoom H4 to your computer via USB and then importing the recordings directly into the Cubase LE program? You may also want to make sure that you have the latest version of the software installed on your computer, as well as the latest drivers for the Zoom H4. If you are still having difficulty, please don't hesitate to contact the Zoom or Cubase support teams for further assistance. I hope this helps!

Connecting / Mac / Tiger / Midi

I have just downloaded and installed the version 2.20 of the software for the H4 from the Zoom site. It solved my problem and the H4-SD card now shows up in the Finder as expected.

Note that I formatted a spare SD card to do this update in order not to lose any existing sound files.
