Question about Harman Kardon AVR 435 Receiver

Receiver turning off by itself

Hi, my AVR 435 will only turn on for a couple of seconds, then turns off all by itself. I'm concerned it is not coincidental that this is happening after some severe thunderstorms rolled through a couple of days ago. Help?

I am having the same problem with my AVR235. The problem started after I installed 3 new speakers and a subwoofer. It turns itself off after extended use though, not right away.

Hi. I have an AVR 445 and it shuts off automatically after 3 hrs from fresh start and then if i turn it on it again take 50 mins to shut off (goes to standby) . i think the problem is that its gets heat up and there is some mechanism that automatically turns it off. I have tired without any speaker connection, changed the electric socket etc, even tired the amp in an open space however, there is no luck.. even the user manual has no clue about it.. i really like this amp..ie when it works.. so anyone out there have a solution.
Tech team from harmon should be professional enough to address such issues on their site as it seems to be a common problem with models like 435 and 445.

AVR 270 Receiver turns itself off immediately

Disconnect all speakers from Zone 1 and see if it stays on. If it does, you have a short on a speaker (probably cable). If not, you might have a blown output transistor on Zone 1. I have a DENON that I am fixing that does this, but only when I turn up volume. Creepy. Good luck !

Turns off

If all speakers are connected and it turns off by itself, it has an output amp failure.

Seek a repair service and get an Estimate FIRST

Did you try to reset the unit? Resetting the unit has fixed every problem I have ever had......turn off unit.....hold down A+B at the same time then turn the unit back on...hold buttons for roughly 3 seconds....Let me know if it works.

It's going into protect. Unhook ALL the speakers and see if it still shuts itself off. If so, then it will have to be taken in for service.
