I have an HP Photosmart 8250 that I purchased several years ago and never used or took out of the box ( left a company after it was sold, and that employer let me buy a different existing higher end printer dirt cheap). Finally opened the box on the one I had purchased, a week ago to set up. After installing printer cartridges that came with the machine, it inidcated that they had expired and it would not allow me to proceed further. So, I bought new cartridges and tried to install them. At first the machine told me to go back and install the introductory cartridges that came with it. I tried that again, same result as before. Tried the new cartirdges again, no luck only this time I now get an error message that says

Sometimes the cartridge will show "good" when they actually need to be replaced. Try printing a test page, cleaning the ink nozzles, and if the problem persists, replace the ink cartridges.
please if you are not professional technician then don't do this.but you can use some cartridge head cleaning solution.on the print head.if problem not solve then replace the cartridge.
ok..do us a favor here..try a test page from printer selection panel. just to make sure it's not the printer..you may need to re install new printer drivers.
I wish I did have a solution. Photoshop Elements 7 exhibits the same problem. They obviously broke something. I have to use an old version of Photoshop Elements 4 just to print properly. I am a tech support professional, uninstalled all HP software, re-installed latest drivers and problem persists. Sucks.
I had same problem with hp psc 2410 all-in-one. Finally ran "HP all-in-one Series Web Release Uninstaller version: 4.1.1.00.1332 (3/20/2007) that I had downloaded several years ago. Then plug and play took over and installed the correct driver that Vista kept insisting I already had.
Purchase a SDHC to USB media converter (e.g. SanDisk M/N SDDR-113-A10M), which allows you to plug that SDHC memory card into the printer via the USB port.
