If you have a netflix account, you can use the netflix app. Or if you are an xfinity user, you can download the xfinity tv app, sign in with your details and youre good. Now if you want to watch movies added on your phone, you can download the VLC app. But if the movie format is not supported like the mkv format, you might need to convert them.
easiest way to stream to tv is with a cable. depending on the make of the tablet , you can buy hdmi micro cables to connect to tv. doing it wireless you will need a box plugged into the tv that has DNLA capability. both are available to buy.if you go for an android tv box they have that but also have XBMC which will allow you to watch any movie/tv programs/sports etc for free
Do you have a friend with a name brand tablet that could come over and test if your wifi can handle streaming? If another tablet gets the same results as your tablet it could be a issue with your wifi access point. I don't use Netflix anymore but can you confirm your new tablet has enough processing power to stream video? Can you stream youtube HD videos?
The Sony Location Free base station can transmit your TV, or most any video signal for that matter, to your laptop as long as it has the Location Free software installed, wi-fi capability, and is within range. It can also transmit your programming over the web so you can watch via broadband and not even need to be home! The only drawback I have experienced is that if the signal is not strong enough, there is a choppiness to the video stream (not unlike watching videos online sometimes), and there is a 4 second delay due to encryption/decryption, but this really does not matter if you're not watching a "live" feed.
I have installed these units for clients and use one as well from time to time to watch TV from rooms without one. Good luck and hope this helps!
