My family purchased the a new Belkin router (N300) and my mac can never connect to it. Someone lost the original password, but I tried getting around it by disabling the WEP. However, even though I did this my laptop says that it's still encrypted - I can't access the internet, but my desktop never has a problem. Basically the wireless part of this router seems like a joke. Any suggestions?

Hi there,
I have the mentioned all the possible ways to get this issue resolved.
First Lets try changing the Wireless password and user name,In most of the cases this works.
1) Open a new web page delete whatever you see in the address bar(press F4 and press delete).
2) Type in 192.168.2.1 and press enter button on your keyboard.
3) Then comes the Router Configuration Page.
4) If it is asking for Password,do nothing just click submit.
5) Towards your left on the page you will see Wireless. Under that you would also see a sub Heading Channel and SSID.
6) To edit the wireless settings click on Wireless tab in the setup page.
You can edit the Wireless network name and wireless channel.
Wireless name (SSID) is the name of your wireless network. The most
recommended wireless channel is 6. You can use wireless channel 1 and
11 too.
Now change The SSID,delete the current SSID and give it a new name.
7)To enable wireless security on click on security under
wireless tab. And follow the Picture below.

look up under your wireless security as it isnt set up right either in the router or on your computer.
look at page 8 to 13 of the PDF and follow the set up again. you will need the wire plugged in while doing this process but afterwords you can go wireless after a reboot.

If your ISP requires a login for you to access the Internet, the router has to be able to pass that information to your ISP server, or it will not be able to access those servers. Your ISP should be well aware of this, as many people use routers for their home networks. The customer service section of your ISP should be able to provide you with this information. They would have had to have given this information to you at some time or you would never have been able to get on to the Internet. If you are having issues getting this information from your customer service people then perhaps you need to request a conversation with one of their supervisors. In all my 30 years of working with computers, and almost as many years of accessing the Internet, I have never heard of an ISP that would not provide you with your own login information. Perhaps it is time to change ISP's.

There will be a lot of possible reasons on that, might be the wireless settings of your computer , you may try to remove all the old networks saved in your laptop and try connecting to it again, heres how
1. locate the wireless icon at the lower right hand corner of your laptop
2. Click on View available wireless settings
3. Click on Change advance Settings on the left side
4. You will have a small window with 3 tabs, one is general but just look for wireless tab
5. Box below you will see the list of the wireless name that was saved .
6. Delete everything, then make sure you apply it if there is or clicking on OK will do
7.Then try connecting again and make sure your password is correct.
or it might be your security application, try checking it and see if there's need to change especially if you got norton installed in your computer, try uninstalling and reinstalling it.
