I replaced a couple of print cartridges on my Canon IP5300 and moved the chips from the old cartridges to the new ones but now get print error and cannot print anything. The reset procedure provided with the cartridges does not seem to work. Can you tell me how to reset the print cartridges on the IP5300?
Word to the wise, NEVER EVER use refilled or non OEM cartridges in any printer! They can do serious damage and you end up buying a whole new printer by trying to save a few bucks on the front end. I used to work for a national chain where we pushed our own after market cartridges. Even at that time I knew what headaches and heartaches it caused. I still directed people pass our own company cartridges straight to HP, Canon, Lexmark, or whomever. Try buying a Canon cartridge and hopefully this will fix it.
I'm sorry but I have to disagree. I have been refilling OEM cartridges and using non-OEM cartridges in my Canon printers for years without problems until we got into these chipped cartridges. It has saved my lots of money over the years. Besides, if the printer does fail, it is cheaper to buy a new one than to buy replacement OEM cartridges. Maybe the OEM manufactures should get real with their pricing of replacement cartridges. I have ordered some non-OEM, chipped cartridges to solve my problem. They cost just over $1.00 per cartridge instead of $20-30 for OEM.

SOURCE: cant get ip4600 to work with new ink tanks having moved the chip
could not get anything to work so i had to buy new and original tanks with chips that solved the problem
SOURCE: Reset Canon printer chip
you can override ink check status and manually reset it in drivers options
With the original chip now
attached to the compatible cartridge (you may need double sided tape to
get the chip to stick well to the cartridge), and with the cartridge
now in the printer, Press and hold the Reset/OK Button for 5 seconds to
reset the chips.

I am trying to use new non OEM print cartridges that have no chip. I removed a chip from the previous empty cartridge and installed in in the slot on the new cartridge but after doing that, the light on the cartridge does not even blink and the printer will not work. I tried cleaning the contacts on the chip with an eraser but still no success. I guess I will have to buy new cartridges that have the chip installed.
