Question about Panasonic NN-S553 1350 Watts Microwave Oven

MW stops after 23 seconds.

Sir, On any power level the unit turns off after 23 seconds. There is no heat and I can restart it as soon as it stops. The fans and turntable work fine. I do not think the door switches are the problem since "the diplay clears and returns to clock mode" like it is finished cooking. When this occurs ther is no beeping like it was done. I checked the switches with a Fluke and they are working fine. Normally if the MW is stopped the cook time remains on the display. There are no strange noises or odors. I hope this enough info for you go on. Thanks Jay Johnson

Okay, just checked the magnatron 0.1-0.2 Ohms across the terminals but only 400 Ohms to ground. I don't think 400 is a good number. If I am correct it should be at least >1M.

I'll check the relays and connections again but I think I need at least a new magnatron.

Thanks for the ideas, back to troubleshooting

after finishing cooking and opening door, power doesn't always turn off. Have to unplug microwave about 20% of the time.

Shuts off after 23 seconds....

In most cases when the microwave stops @ 23 seconds it's the Magnetron which has failed, and is shorting to earth.

Either that or the magnetron isn't getting the right signal from the inverter board. It gives it 20 seconds to get the right signal or it shuts itself off.

JVM1850BH02 Microwave completely shut down, not working after...

The extreme heat has opened up one of the thermostats / thermal cutouts (TCOs) in the oven.

If it was the bottom TCO or magnetron TCO, you should be able to access them by just removing the control panel.

But if it's the one on top of the cavity, the oven will have to come out of the wall, then you need to pull of the outer cover..

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

You should locate and look this over first.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Neff HTHB86K Microwave oven.

The microwave unit is faulty as you can read from the display or the controller isn't working correctly, you should take your MW oven to an authorized service center. It can be repaired by yourself but it's highly dangerous because it has high voltage inside and microwave energy.
