I have a 46" Mitsubishi HDTV that is 5 years old. After 3 years, the convergence went which cost about $430 to repair. Over the last couple of days the picture will be fine and then all of a sudden it will get very cloudy - lie you're watching the picture but there is a fog over it. Please advise. thanks
High humidity could be a cause
i have a similar problem with a sony
rear projection. on some warm rainy days /try cleaning lenses with a photographic anti fog cloth.but be very carefull not to scratch or leave dust on lens.

Changing the convergence IC's could cost $300-$400 total.CRT based TV rear projectors are more or less obsolete now, with everything going to DLP and LCD.These days 5 years is the expected life on these TV's (most extended warranty contracts only cover up to 5 years)
Ur tv have convergence problems before, that why tv getting colors lines somtimes alot, sometimes not.The 2 STK convergence ICS was defective. Now the 2 STK convergence ICS are now totally dead. The shop will cost u $300-350 for parts and labors for the 2 STK convergence ICS,and it supporting resistors.
DLP projection tvs are bulky and have a design flaw in the convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS alway dies constinely require replacement,if u use about 4 or 5 hours day in and day out.If the old Mitsubishi tv several years since is was repair,u use it alot?If yes,it time to retire it,and buy the refurbish Plama tv.Not,than get the old tv repair.U Know how to solders?Tries Websites Tv repair World.com,Tvrepairkits.com to buy a convergence kit to repair it ur self.U can go to You Tube type in Convergence problems will see a tutoring video in repairing 2 STK Convergence ICS.
The Convergence IC's have went out. This is normal for this TV after about 5 years or so. You will need 2 sanyo STK392-150 IC chips, and about 6 resistors to fix. The cost is about 50 US dollars if you do it yourself. If you are not good at soldering, don't try it. However if you are, and can read an ohmeter it will be no problem
This is a convergence problem that is either bad connections on the convergence ICs or defective ICs. IF you can solder and feel comfortable working inside the set, you can fiox this yourself. Let me know if you wish to attempt the repair and I'll post more details and instructions.
