The marked part was sometimes not pulled back completely. When printerhead moved to the left position it was stopped there. This caused a horrible sound, caused by the belt.

You could see wear at the area. Flattened the surface with a knife. SOURCE: Canon Pixma MP830 error 5100

As a technician, I have worked on tons of printers. This particular error had stumped me for a while, but I finally found the cause. As others had pointed out before, it can have alot to do with some obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap (the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing error 5100 (or E-2-2 on the LCD display) Keep in mind that this repair will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps some of you out.

Error code 5100

Error code 5100 indicates that Carriage Return (CR) error occurs. This error rise when carriage unit (the part that function as cartridge housing) does not move properly. Here are some possibilities of the problem:
  1. Carriage unit is faulty so that it cannot 'read' film timing **** strip (film encoder) properly
  2. Film encoder is dirty. Film encoder functions as a guide for carriage unit to move to the correct position it should be. Carriage unit 'read' the encoder by flashing a light from a LED. Dirty encoder sometimes make the light direction is deviated.
  3. Foreign material blocking carriage unit path. Please check inside the printer and remove it if any.

If carriage unit is faulty, you need bring the printer to the service center to get part replacement. For dirty film encoder, sometimes you can still clean it by using moistened cloth. I hope this will HELP you. Thanks.

I Have a a Canon PIXMA MP810, suddenly showing error code 5100 How can I fix this? Gene Deitch [email protected]

Hi

Error 5100 on canon is a Carriage Home Position Error. Try reseating the printer cartridges. If that doesn't help make sure there is no paper stopping the carriage from moving right to left. Try cleaning the plastic strip (encoder strip, behind the carriage) that runs the length of the carriage, it may be contaminated. Use alcohol and a swab (Q-tip) to clean. Before cleaning unplug it from the power supply. Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Service Error 5100 Prints part of page then stops. Tried the suggested solution by Canon at the time of service error notice (turn printer off then back on, unplug from power source then replug, etc.) to...

5100 is a carriage error, usually caused by grease on the clear encoder strip behind the carriage assembly. You can clean the strip with a damp Q-tip just damp with plain water.

Service error 5100

5100 means the carriage is not moving properly, or there is grease or ink on the encoder strip The encoder strip is the clear strip with black lines behind the carriage that runs all the way across the printer. You can clean the strip with a Q-tip just damp with water.

Error code 5100 on the canon ip6700D printer. stops printing part way through. Have tried all the cleaning options.

5100 says the carriage is not moving properly or there is ink or grease on the encoder. One time I found a camera card inside stopping it, but usually it's just grease on the encoder strip behind the carriage assembly.also if the purge assembly on the right is stuck in the up position you'll get that error.

Paper not loading, sericr eror message 5100

Dear kamal,

Error code 5100 also come with LED alarm flashes in Orange/Green 2 times. This error happens when carriage part (carriage unit) is faulty so that carriage part cannot read film encoder properly. As a result, carriage part move on uncontrolled. But,in some cases, dirty film timing **** strip (Horizontal film encoder;available only in i series and above) may cause the same symptom. Try to clean film encoder by wiping it with moistened clothe first.

Remedial action:
  • Replace carriage part
  • Clean/replace film timing **** strip
