Does your phone shows "insert sim card " error even though the sim is in? As far as I know there are two possibilities to get this error message. One is poor signal of that respective network for which you just need to switch OFF and ON your mobile and the mobile will be able to receive the signal from near by tower. You may also get this error message when you are trying to insert a sim other than which the mobile is locked to.To solve this problem you need to unlock the phone from that particular network or use the same sim to which the mobile is locked to.You can unlock HTC phones using unlock code from any vendors online like http://www.unlocking4u.com/htc/rs5wp8/ http://www.unlocking4u.com/htc/rs5wp8/
SIm unlock code is a special code which unlocks your device for all network providers. If you have entered a new SIM card in the phone the phone wont respond to it and you wont get signals unless you unlock it.
Please check whether the Sim Card is activated and make sure it is 2G SIM Card and check whether you have selected General Profile and not the Flight Mode profile in the Nokia X3 Cellphone.
Are you using an old SIM card? Sometimes a worn out SIM card won't make a solid connection with the metal contacts, resulting in a drop in signal strength.
You might want to look into getting a new SIM from your carrier, and see if that helps.
Otherwise, I am guessing it is a hardware problem with the phone itself.
