Blobs of red and green with 27AF44c

The TV was free from craiglist but has a problem: The color was distorted due to blobs of red in the top-right corner and green on the right-vertical side of the tube. I have tried to move the adjustments around the CRT neck but this only moved the blobs around. I hope somebody can offer some help. I am handy with solder gun and am not afraid of trying. It gives me satisfaction to fix things and not throwing away TV that appeared to have minor problems only.

Thank you for any help.

Hello!

The manual to this TV says:

Trouble - Poor color or no color

- The station may have broadcast difficulties. Try another channel.
Adjust the TINT and/or COLOR in the PICTURE menu.
If you change the direction of the TV while it is turned on, the picturecould suffer from color shading. If so, turn off the TV and allow it to cool
for several hours before turning it on again.

Here is a link to the "Troubleshooting" part of the manual. I hope it will help you

Toshibas are notorious for developing shorts in the inernal guns of the picture tube. In your case the green gun is shorted to G1. The noise you heard was an internal arc between the elements. It is unfortunate however, the repair of this problem usually requires the picture tube to be replaced. Sometimes a savvy technician with sencore picture tube rejuvenator can remove the short. This however usually does not last. Scrivitron

SOURCE: Rainbow pattern on CRT TV

If degaussing doesn't work, it may just be time to pony up and replace the crt as it sounds as if the shadow mask inside the tube has come loose. And, as you know, there is no opening that to service it.....accordianman

SOURCE: Emerson 20" T.V. Green blobs

your tv has become magnetized the easiest way is to find a deguasing coil to demagnetize it however only services shop usally have those! you can try unplugging and turning set back on several times to see if that will clear it up as sets have a built in deguasing setup good luck from television tech!

Left half of picture has a green ghost like shade

The sounds like the light engine is bad. Sony is notorious for blobs because of the three LCD chip inside consisting of a red, green, and blue chip. The light from the lamp is reflected and then combined back together to form a brilliant picture. Unfortunately one of the chips is bad, or has melted due to extreme heat from the lamps. This can cause the color blobs on the screen. A lot of people experience blue or green blobs in the center or on the sides of their sets.

Hitachi rear projection LCD with yellow blobs on screen

I have the same tv and the same problem, but my yellow is a cloud around the outside of the screen. My tv was recently moved, and a repair shop told me that sometimes in a move these tvs light engine takes a shock and causes a yellow "band" on the screen. I am hearing that these light engines are not cheap either. Hope this helps you.

If you have the "red" blob in the center of the screen or you have "blue" blobs that show up in random areas of the picture then the only repair is to have a technician replace the optical light engine.
