4x4 linkage broke

K so, the linkage that connects the 4x4 shifter to shift the transfer case into the multiple 4x4 options into gear has broke. I have searched all over the internet and called the auto parts store and nobody seams to know what the linkage is called. I can't put it into 4 wheel unless I crawl under the car and turn the lever on the transfer case manually. The shifter on the inside of the car is just limp. Help me out guys! Thanks.

i see what your talking about i have been looking for selector rod assembly's shift lever assemblys and transfer case linking and i get nothing back on the google. i would suggest just going to an mechanic and offering to buy the part from him. chances are they have seen this before and can fix it or find a new one or fabricate one that you could buy and install yourself

Alright guys, I got under the truck and got everything figured out. They are all dealer parts and nobody was any help here in town other then the dealership. They can look up the parts by using your vin # because there are so many different types of transfer cases in those jeeps. My problem ended up being only a couple of plasting bushings to hold the linkage together. I picked them up from a local transmission shop for $2 total. But for anyone else that has the same problem, the parts can all be looked up at the dealership and there are a ton of different kinds. The guy at the counter was a little lost until I got him the VIN, lol. Thanks for the help guys!

1991 Chevrolet K1500 1/2 Ton. 4x4 low trouble taking out of gear.

The grinding and difficulty shifting out of 4x4 Low in your 1991 K1500 could be due to a few possible causes:

1. Transfer case issues: There could be a problem with the transfer case itself, such as worn gears, damaged shift forks, or a faulty shift linkage. This can result in difficulty shifting out of 4x4 Low and the grinding sensation.

2. Synchronization issues: The synchronization mechanism in the transfer case may be worn or damaged, leading to difficulty disengaging 4x4 Low. This can cause grinding as you try to shift it out.

3. Clutch or clutch linkage problems: If the clutch is not fully disengaging, it can prevent the transfer case from shifting out of 4x4 Low smoothly. Issues with the clutch linkage, such as a worn clutch linkage bushing or misadjusted clutch pedal, can also contribute to this problem.

It is recommended to have a qualified mechanic inspect and diagnose the specific cause of these symptoms. They can perform a thorough examination of the transfer case, clutch system, and associated components to identify any faults or wear. Once the problem is identified, the necessary repairs or adjustments can be made to resolve the issue with shifting out of 4x4 Low and the grinding sensation.

4x4 wont engage when shifter is put in all 4wheel positions drives fine in 2wheel drive

Can you supply more information? year and model of vehicle, does it have an actual shifter lever or buttons? and what are all the available options to shift into?

If you have a honest mechanical manual 4x4 that you reach down to the floor and shift into 4x4 with a lever, and 4x4 doesnt work you got problems with your transfer case or you got some bent or missing linkages.

if you have a push button system for 4x4, then you could have a number of problems, bad actuator motor, bad wiring, etc.

the transfer case shifter linkage may be loose or binding. Check the shift fork for signs of cracks or wear.
Damaged internal gears or viscous coupler prevent the transfer case from shifting into "4-low" or "4-high" drives.

Transfer case shifter is locked up in 2H on 4x4 montero sport 2002

Mine did the same thing so I removed the center console and then the boot around transfer case shifter and the shifter it self.
This is when I discovered a broken linkage that had wedged itself between the 4L & 4H shafts in the transfer case. I removed the broken parts and reassembled and it will shift between 2H & 4H but not 4L until the broken plastic linkage is replaced. Found your post while lookin for the replacement part so I thought I would try to help. Good Luck

I bought a 2000 f150 4x4, 5 speed. the truck

You can try several things. You can stop the vehicle as if you are going into low range and shift the high range 2h, 4h, etc.. Ford advertises the Electric button type as "shift on the fly" but does not say the gears are synchronized to do that with manual engagement.

Change the lube this time to see if the lube is Milky. There have been floods, otherwise the case is sealed whether you park it or drive it. You still could have rust on the shift linkage. You need to move the linkage as you spray it. Then the offbeat chance something was bent from offroading. A Salvage Yard is a wonderful place to learn how a car is built. You may see their part looks different than yours.

4-wheel drive won't shift into gear

I take it you have the manual t-case shifter on the floor. If so check all your linkages from the shifter to the t-case, if all appears well, simply disconnect the linkage from the t-case and see if it moves if it does your problem is in the shift mechanism in the t-case. if it still wont move even while disconnected clean and lube the linkage. If this still doesn't do the trick. replace your linkage
