Incompatible disc error for the 1998 movie "X-Files" recently released on Blueray.

X-Files will not play. Disc loads and then message comes up that says the player needs to be upgraded to play the disc.

I am unable to play the new X-Files movie as well as the first of the Narnia series. The message the player returns is "Incompatible Disc"

I WAS able to update the player's firmware using a USB stick, but unforttunately this has not solved the problem.

A possible solution: after a firmware update power on the unit with no disc in and then hold the power button in for 5 seconds until you see "reset" on the unit's display. This will reset back to factory defaults maybe clearing out any quirks the update might have caused.

Try a different disc. It may just be defective. Try the disc in a different player and see if it reads. If it does and other discs play ok in your player it may just be a weird quirk with that one disc.

Why do some videos on youtube have incompatible files?

Most of the files downloaded from YouTube are having extension
.flv, .fla etc which can't be played in PC without using codecs. But you can download the videos in mp4 format by using www.clipconverter.cc website. It works perfectly.

We have a sony bdp 300 DVD. We updated the firmware several months ago and all the movies worked fine. However, now it will play just fine during the previews but when we play the movie, there is no audio....

Hi

This certainly looks like a potential firmware issue especially if the Audio is there on the previews. There are reports also of recent firmware updates causing problems on some other Sony BDP units.

You might want to try a Blueray cleaning disk which you can purchase from any good Audio store first to ensure there is not a problem with dirt on the lens that may be causing this. Simply insert and play like a normal disk and it provides a cleansing action to the lens.

Otherwise my advice is to contact Sony directly to discuss the matter and find out if there have been any recent firmware issues.

The most recent update for your unit is firmware version 4.9 and this was released on 12th June 2009

The support phone number for Sony Blueray Players is 239-768-7547

Hope this helps. Please do rate this answer. Many Thanks.
