SOURCE: how to disable drivelock password

The Compaq drivelock feature is designed to protect the data on a laptop's hard drive by assigning a password.

This password protects the drive in the event the laptop is lost or stolen, but can be removed when necessary.

Knowing how to remove or change the drivelock feature can make your Compaq more useful and more secure.

Power on your laptop and enter the drivelock password you established when you turned the drive protection feature on.

You will need this password to access the drive and turn off the drivelock feature.

Click the "Disabled" option in the drivelock menu.

This will turn off the drivelock feature on the Compaq laptop.

Do not enter anything in the password blocks.

Log on to the laptop, click the "Start" button and choose "Shut down." Choose "Restart" from the menu to power cycle your laptop and verify the drivelock setting is off.

If the drivelock setting is off you will not be prompted for a password when the laptop starts up.

hope this helps

SOURCE: How to disable drivelock password.I don't know the password. It was inadvertantly set by one of my kids.

Unless you set a master DriveLock password to reset it with, then (according to HP at least) the hard drive will be rendered completely unusable. I think your best bet would be to try and get your kids to give you the password.

What does configure drivelock passwords mean?

Drivelock is a security feature that allows you to password protect a harddrive. The big feature here is the password is actually on the harddrive itself and if the drive is moved to a different system you will need the password to unlock it there too. It should be noted that password recovery for this is not an easy task. So don't lose the password :-)

MY HP COMPAQ NC 6000 LAPTOP request a Drivelock HDD bay password

Hi kala_mumbe,

I know how you feel as my HP pavilion has had the same blue screen ansking for the 'drivelock multibay password' . the good news is i have fixed it just 5 mins ago.

I think that you have to get into the bios first. Lets see if I can show you how I helped it to boot up:
  1. at the blue screen I pressed the F10 Key which took me into setup
  2. i then selected the security tab
  3. and then I think I selected drivelock password
  4. and then selected the "Notebook hard drive" item where I tried to disable, with no success

PLEASE NOTE: at this point I noticed that each time that i tried to disable the password it kept returning to the item 'Notebook hard drive' . I thought to myself that maybe this is the password and not just an item on the list, so I carefully wrote down .. Notebook hard drive .. taking note of capitalization and spaces and then exited setup.
  5. I then noticed that there was nowhere to enter the password so i carefully typed .. Notebook hard drive .. onto the keyboard, and waited. After about 1 min a small 'OK' appeared inside the blue box and my heart leaped for joy inside my chest.
  6. I waited... and a black screen apeared with the wite cursor blinking
  7. and I waited... this time about 5 mins passed and then windows started to load. Thank God!
I hope you get some joy out of this post and it's not too late for your Campac Laptop.

happy, happy
