Mavic Crossmax SLR rim split. I want to order a new rim for the rear wheel. How do I go about it?

Either trust your local shop, or call one of the e-bay or Amazon vendors, such as Nigara, Bike Wagon.

Mavic Cosmic Carbon SLS Rearwheel 2014 - Rattling noise.

a common problem is to have a spoke nipple or some carbon flash that is loose inside the rim.

Take off the tire and rim strip,
and hold the wheel with the valve hole at the bottom.
shake and rattle the piece, until it falls out of the valve hole.

Another option is to squirt some spray foam into the rim,
and shake the wheel until the piece sticks in the foam.

Use very little foam,
as the more you use, the more off balance the wheel can become
and you can fill spoke or valve holes, making service difficult.

I am looking to replace Mavic x138 wheelsets on our 2000 kona lavadome bikes. They have lasted well, with about 25000km. of loaded touring but are now cracking round the spoke holes. What replacements...

If you have been happy with the Mavic rims, I would stick with them again. One of the biggest considerations for your application of loaded touring is getting a rim that is strong enough without adding too much additional weight. The skill of the wheel builder is also going to have a dramatic effect on durability. The XC 717 is a cross country rim, available in both disc and standard brake formats with ceramic coated side walls for better stopping if you are using non disc brakes.

Noise on freewheel rotation when moving fairly fast, I think the pawls are hanging up but how do I get it apart/

Too take the Freehub off of the hub body is fairly simple on Mavic. You will need either Mavic Mineral oil, a lightweight mineral oil or other very light lubricant when you are done with cleaning. This can be tricky to find and you may need to enlist the help of your local bike shop to get some or the equivelant.

Here is the direct link to the Mavic service instructions with nice clear pictures and "how-to's".

HELLO, I HAVE A DURA ACE 7900 MODEL CASSETTE AND WOULD LIKE TO PUT IT ON A KSYRIUM SL RIM, DO I HAVE TO PUT THE SPACER ON IT BEFORE THE WHOLE CASSETTE GOES ON? THE CASSETTE IS A 12-25 GEAR.

In my experience with Shimano cassettes on Mavic wheels, the answer is "yes" but i had a mountain wheel and cassette. The only way to know is to put it on and see if there is slop in the fitment. If there is, then you have your answer. i also had this problem with Mavic: i had to adjust the high and low settings on my rear derailleur because of the awkward spacing of the Mavic freehub. Just something you should be aware of in case you have difficulty with shifting after the install. By the way - although they are inferior cassettes, SRAM cassettes seem to fit Mavic freehubs better.

Regards,
matt
