Question about HP PSC 2175 All-In-One InkJet Printer
Diagnostic pages are usually internal to the printer- not generated in the PC. Scanning and printing can also be PC Independant[ like printing photos from media cards in ther stand alone mode - No PC required. So go back to the printer. Go to start/printers and faxes- dig out out the driver CD and reinstall- make sure when this is going on you direct the comm away from LPT1 to a USB setting. Do that then come back.

I have been into printer properties and the printer is installed to the virtual printer port for usb. Does this make a difference to your solution?
I think I may have solved the problem. I have formatted my pc and turned of Windows updates. I have a feeling that the Windows verification tool was the culprit but I am not going to use any updates to make sure. I dont know how risky this may be but I am going to chance it just to have a working printer.
By the way, dont try and delete any windows updates in your "Add/remove programs" folder. I tried it and my pc became amazingly unstable and most things refused to work.
