Question about Sony Handycam DCR-HC42 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

No display in viewfinder and LCD

The camcorder's viewfinder and LCD are both black when the camcorder is in Tape Mode. And yes, the lens is open. Both the viewfinder and LCD play back video in the Play/Edit mode. I also hit the reset button and that didn't work. Help, please! Thanks!

When in video recording mode LCD screen and viewfinder are black when the lens cap is off.

It could one of a few problems:

1. The viewfinder is pulled out and "PRIORITY" is set to "FINDER".

Push the viewfinder back in or set "PRIORITY" to "LCD".

2. The LCD monitor's brightness setting is too dark.

Adjust the brightness of the LCD monitor.

3. If the monitor is tilted upward 180 degrees, open the monitor fully.

Assuming you don't see any video through the viewfinder, it could be that the CCD has died on that camcorder. It happens, though not frequently.

If the video though the viewfinder is clear, there might be some sensor on the lens ring to indicate a lens cap, or an automatic lens cap not properly disengaging when put in record mode.

No display in viewfinder and LCD

i think you are able too see the video in play back mode. so there is no problem in your LCD.
i think the CCD has got damaged in your CAM. that is why you are not able to view anything in shooting mode.
because CCD is the layer which converts the light falling on it to a electrical signal and shows us as a complete image.
