Dehumidifier My dehumidifier a whirlpool AD40DSL is not working correctly. It's making a fan noise and is getting hot but no water is collecting in the tank. It has been really wet and humid lately and it may have been overworked! Is there a part that can be replaced or should i just buy a new one. We've had this one about 3 years maybe.

Check the coils for partial icing. Id recommend unplugging it leaving it to defrost and plug back in. If still not working check coils again. If partially frozen you have a sealed system leak. The fan being noisy can be a sign its not working and not spinning high enough to cool coils for proper operation. Try taking a shower and leaving dehum in with you, After a shower leave in for about a hr, if water collects you prob have a failed fan. Id recommend repurchasing if OOW. Due to costs.

My whirlpool dehumidifier fan runs, but no water is being taken out of the air; cleaned the filter and still no change; dehumidifier was purchased in August 2008.

Hello,

First, make sure the humidistat isn't set too high by adjusting it to the lowest humidity setting and running it again. Next, test the dehumidifier by placing it in a closed bathroom with a hot shower running. If you don't see water collecting in the unit after several minutes, turn the unit off and clean all dehumidifier filters and coils. If, after adjusting the settings and cleaning the unit, you still don't see water collecting, you may have a refrigeration issue. This situation will have to be addressed by a qualified technician.

Take care.

Fan noise but compressor not running and no water collecting in tank coils have some rust- does this mean that the freon has drained and the unit is done?

Hi, this very well could be the problem. If you have no water collecting and the coils are rusted, yes, I would say this is the problem. The unit has lost its refrigerant due to pin holes in the coil causing the compressor to either go off on a low pressure switch or has locked the compressor up or it is a burn out. It wouldn't be worth the $$$$ to replace the coils and compressor. I am sorry to tell you this kind of news but you pretty much already figured out the problem on your own, I just confirmed it. The only thing that would be any good on the unit would be the blower motor that is running. I hope this has been of help to you.
Sincerely,

How do I oil and Clean the Whirlpool dehumidifier Model AD0402XS

I like to take my dehumidifer outside, rinse it off with water, scrub it with soapy water, and rinse.

Then I take compressed air and blow it off let it dry in the sun. While I have it apart I will put a drip or two of oil on the fan shaft.

Be careful anytime you remove a cover you are exposed to sharp edges!
