I have a home theater system that has the receiver and the dvd/ cd player combined. I recently have not been able to play disc. The radio still works but I cannot play dvds or cds. Do you know what could be wrong and if it is something I could correct on my own. The exact error I get. I place disc shelf and the player takes it in. The there isn't much noise as before you could hear it spinning, then about a few seconds it says "no dics." Thank you for your help.

Check a CD. If it plays, the Optical Pickup for the DVD is worn out and will need to be replaced.

discs can be faulty and lasers can be lazy try another dvd play and try another disc. if you can get a disc to play then try the the one that failed again straight after. persistent problems of this nature usually mean its time to buy a new dvd player
There is nothing wrong with it, it is set to only play in the region it was purchased from. That is how all DVD players are made, with regional settings. No repair is going to help, you just need a DVD player from the proper region to play those disc's.
If you are playing STANDARD CD or regular DVD that you have purchase and you are having this problem, your dvd player is malfunction;however,if you are playing DVD burner disc or a different dvd region disc(we are region 1 in U.S.) that is no going to work.Same thing for your CD burner disc,it might not work. If you are using a rental dvd disc, check and see if there is scratches? If so,try to get one without that many scratches! Joe
