Write the Manufacturer and maybe try to list in a section of Fixya that is not a Cars and Trucks section.

Car with key symbol

Indicates an error with your 'Smart Key'.
Either your key is not being detected at all, or there is a code mismatch. You made need to change the FOB battery.

Contact your local Nissan dealership, as these issues are rather finicky and usually require their electronic computer hook-up to diagnose.

Car wont turn over after replacing ignition switch

Do you mean the key switch. Read this.

HIGH SECURITY 'CHIP KEY' - By now, most people know their vehicle's high-tech keys are expensive at the car dealers- Now, you can get high-tech keys from us at a fraction of the cost. How does the high-tech key work? The key contains a tiny embedded electronic chip called a transponder. Each transponder has its own unique code--it's the key's 'fingerprint'. When the key is inserted into the ignition and turned, the transponder is energized and broadcasts its unique code to the car's receiver in the dashboard. If the car's receiver recognizes the code, it will allow the car to start. ikeyless.com-----If it is the ignition switch under the dash on top of the steering column it needs to be adjusted right.Go to Autozone.com and make an account and put in your make and model and click on repair manual it will show you everything on the car but you have to make an account it's free

Vw beetle does not start. seems like its some kind of anti theft protection. the car/key icon lights up, it turns over for a second , then off. this is the first time this has happened, but we bought it...

First of all you need to programm all ignition keys using suitable diagnostic equipment (VAS, VAG-Com) connected to the data link connector of the car.

You have an electronic immobilizer key recognition problem. Now your key chip is not recognized by the transponder antenna fitted on the ignition switch barrel.

  • Everytime when you had a new key you must programm all available ignition car keys before trying to start the engine with this new key !!!

This warning lamp indicates that the engine is locked by the immobilizer system, and the engine start sequence must be repeat again.

From year 1995 in Audi-VW (VAG) cars is used engine immobilizer. The VAG group immobilizer system consists of an immobilizer ECU which controls the recognition of keys and the Engine Management ECU system. Immobilizer is activated when the ignition key is removed and, together with the engine control unit, largely prevents unauthorized starting of the engine. The system uses a transmitter and receiver unit in the ignition key (transponder). Whenever an attempt is made to start the engine, it transmits a new code to the car's electronics. The immobilizing is only cancelled and car motor electronic receives permission to start engine if the key sends a right authorization code.

After changing the fan belt at a garage, my Mazda 6 would not start. We trried using the extra key remote, but the car still will not start. What is the problem/solution? Is there a special Security...

    Hi there,

Your Mazda 6 keys have transponders built in and only the correct key I.D. will activate your vehicle's immobilizer.

I'm at a loss as to how changing a fan belt could have altered your vehicle's immobilizer system - are you absolutely certain the garage hasn't disturbed any of the electronics?

First, we need to establish whether your vehicle's immobilizer still considers your keys as valid.

    - Insert Key # 1 and turn ignition to ON (do not start).
Observe the "Security" light in the cluster - it should illuminate, then turn off after approx. 3 seconds. If this works, then Key # 1 is considered still vaild.
    - quickly turn Key 1 back to LOCK position and remove key.

    Wait 5 seconds...

    - Insert Key # 2 and turn ignition to ON (do not start).
Observe the "Security" light in the cluster - it should illuminate, then turn off after approx. 3 seconds. If this works, then Key # 2 is considered still vaild.

Note: if Security light does not behave as above and keys still won't start your car, then your keys are no longer validated by the PCM

If this is the case, then unfortunately unlike other manufacturers, only Mazda will be able to re-program your key's ID into your vehicle's PCM. Contact your local Mazda Dealership to discuss.

    Regards,

    Lost key,NOW what

Call the dealer with your VIN# . They should be able to look up the key code and can probably cut a key from that. If not , there are many locksmiths that for a fee can come to your car an fuss with a key blank until it works in your ignition. A good salesman will write your key code in your cars owners manual. The original dealer may be able to look up the code in there records(not a good option for an old car , the paper work is in a vault some where in a box under a pile of boxes.)
