The sound quality built in to most mother boards is not the best quality. It is a compromise. The best solution is to install a high quality sound card in an available slot.
For video quality, it is the same issue when it comes to high quality video.
Before installing the new sound card, uninstall the existing sound drivers and sound software for the built in sound as necessary. You may have to go in to the BIOS set-up and dissable the mother board's built in sound. It is best to consult the instructions for *********** board to know the details for the particular mother board. You should contact the dealer for your computer to have proper details.
Turn off the computer, and disconnect the AC cord. Open the case, and install the new sound card according to the instructions that come with it.
When the computer re-starts, it should tell you that it found new hardware. Go through the installation procedure. There will be drivers and some software and drivers that must be installed.
If you are not used to this type of procedure, it would be best for you to take the computer to a computer service place and have them do the installation for you.
Stop Messages During Installation
An unsuccessful attempt to install Windows 2000 can result in a Stop message. When this happens, first check that the computer and all of its peripheral hardware are compatible with Windows 2000. To do this, refer to the latest Windows 2000 Hardware Compatibility List (HCL). Microsoft compiles the HCL through rigorous component and compatibility testing of computers and peripheral hardware to determine if they work well with Windows 2000. For more information about the HCL, see "Additional Resources" at the end of this chapter.
If the hardware you use is not included on the Windows 2000 HCL, contact the hardware manufacturer as a first-line resource for available information, newly tested hardware, and Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) and firmware revisions. Reducing the number of hardware components by removing nonessential peripherals and devices can help you pinpoint installation conflicts as well.
