Fuse or heating element or what? Carousel turns, light turns on, counts down, just no heating and a louder cooking noise now. Happened when cooking in-bag vegetable. Within a 1-2 seconds of starting to cook, heard pop/zzzzt sound - possibly something metallic in/on package? Continued to "cook" but sound was louder and result was nothing was cooked.

If you have no power what so ever its probably the main fuse inside the mirowave. You'll have to take it apart. If you try this yourself unplug it then there are several screws around the cabinet of microwave remove them and make sure that they go back where you took them out from because they may or maynot be the same size or length. once you get the cabint off follow the plug wire up into the micro wave there may or may not be a fuse on the wire just inside the frame of the Microwave but it will be close when you find it take it out and replace with the exact size take it to a appliance parts store and get the replacement.
Testimonial: "Thank you! Replaced the fuse, power came on, but blew under load. Old micro, time to chunk it. Thanks for the $2 troubleshooting suggestion! Karen"

So the oven lamp comes on but the turntable and internal cooling fan do not?
If that is incorrect, please reply back and correct me.
If that's the scenario you have, then you have a bad primary interlock (bottom door switch) or its mount is broken or loose.
