Gas dryer that kicks the circuit breaker when I turn the timer from off to any time. I don't touch the "start" button. Could the start button be faulty?

SOURCE: Dryer Won't Start

Make sure it has power. Then:Check the door switch. A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you need a new door switch. if it clicks when you close the door then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece with 2 wires attached.

Door switch part number 3406109
Thermal fuse part number 3392519

SOURCE: Clothes Dryer tripping house circuit breaker

If it is breaking the main circuit of the house there is something wrong. It should throw the breaker to the dryer only. It sounds like you are having a problem with a short between the main breaker and sub panel in the house. Is there any way you can move the breaker in the panel to a different place on the same panel to see if it is that circuit only. If not check the outlet and the plug on the dryer and make sure the wiring is connected correctly.

Neptune dryer has power but will not spin.I hear a faint click comming from the left side. model#MDE9700AYM

An electric Neptune clothes dryer, like most electric clothes dryers, has two circuit breakers: one for the drum and another for the heating element. Both breakers need to be in the "on" position for it to run properly. Go to your main circuit box. Reset both of the dryer's circuit breakers to the "on" position. If one of the breakers trips again, there's a problem with the dryer component that it operates. Contact a dryer repair technician to evaluate the machine's condition.
The lid switch is a small latch located on the interior of the door frame on your Neptune clothes dryer. It keeps the door securely shut when the dryer's on to prevent injury should you open the door and reach inside while it's turning. If the lid switch becomes damaged, the dryer won't turn on even though its lights might work. Run your finger over the lid switch and listen for a clicking sound. If you don't hear a sound when the latch is compressed, it's faulty and needs to be swapped out.

The thermal cut-off is a heat-sensitive safety feature on a Neptune clothes dryer that shuts off the heating element if the dryer overheats. After it activates, it can't be reset; you must replace it. Until it's replaced, your dryer might only partially function, so while its lights might turn on, the dryer might not spin or heat. Don't exchange an old thermal cut-off for a new one until you first determine what promoted it to trip, otherwise your dryer likely will overheat again.

Dryer not powering/turning on

Investigate these areas if your dryer is not starting: Proper Voltage from the House Your dryer may not be receiving adequate voltage to start. Make sure your dryer is plugged in. Also, check the circuit breaker panel to make sure all the circuit breakers are in the correct positions. Or check to make sure no fuses in the fuse panel are blown. Try plugging something else into the same outlet. If it won't work either, then there is likely something wrong with the power outlet. Any of these could be the reason power is not getting to your dryer. Also, refrain from using an extension cord to plug your dryer in. Door Switch If your dryer's door switch is defective, it will not allow your dryer to start. Test your dryer's door switch. If it is defective, replace it. Start Switch A dryer cannot start if its start switch is defective. Test your dryer's start switch. If it is defective, you will have to replace it for your dryer to start again. Thermal Fuse A thermal fuse is a heat-sensitive fuse attached to your dryer's exhaust duct (in most models) that is designed to blow if the dryer overheats. A blown fuse would cause your dryer to not heat, or to not work at all. Open up your dryer's cabinet and locate its thermal fuse. Test the component. If it has blown, replace it. Thermostat A defective dryer thermostat could be what is preventing your dryer from starting. Open up your dryer's cabinet. Test each of your dryer's thermostats. Replace any that have become defective. Timer Motor Your dryer's timer will not function properly if its motor is malfunctioning. Open up your dryer's cabinet and locate its motor. Test the component. If it is not functioning as it should, replace either the motor itself, or the entire timer assembly. Motor A burned out motor could be what is keeping your dryer from starting. Test your dryer's motor and if it is defective, replace it. You will have to open your dryer in order to gain access to its motor. Whirlpool Ultimate Care II gas dryer won't turn off.

Dryer Won't Stop Running
  • Ultimate Car II Dryers are fitted with a mechanical timer that sends an impulse to the control circuit board to stop running once the set amount of drying time has elapsed. This is because, should an electronic timer fail, this would necessitate the replacement of the entire circuit board. Confirm that the mechanical timer is indeed broken by opening the dryer's door. If the dryer stops, the circuit board is working fine and is not the problem. Simply slide off the protective faceplate of the dryer, unscrew the control board beneath, and flip it over. Connected to the back of the timer's knob should be a small round device with two wires running to the circuit board within the body of the dryer. Unscrew this device from the back of the knob and disconnect the wires. A replacement timer costs a few dollars and should screw into place without trouble. Reconnect the wires and put the dryer back together. It should work fine now.

I have a roper dryer that was working fine than all of a sudden just stopped turning. I've checked everything I know circuit breaker. Does the roper dryer have a reset button???

No, reset button on these. It may be the lid switch or the thermal fuse. This is what I find most of the time. Check out the diagram on apwagner.com and you'll see the parts locations. Oh, if it's not the thermal fuse of the lid switch it may be the timer. I've seen this a couple of times.

Dryer won't turn on after circuit breaker kicked out and the light bulb inside the dryer shattered.

Im going out on a limb here and say ... the breaker popped - your light exploded ... it will not start. You took a big surge hit and probably smoked the timer.

Unplug the machine - remove the back or the top to gain access to the wiring. With your volt/ohm meter start checking contunity particularly with the timer. The timer is only a switch, you know this right? When you are satisfied with your contunity checks, plug it in and scheck for voltages.

Good luck

Why no heat

Absolutely. A bad timer will not initiate the element function once the load has started. there is a point on the timer board where, the timer sends a heat signal to the element and it also controls the shutdown signals as well. the high limit thermostat controls the actual temp once the timer initiates the heat signal. if the timer is bad or malfunctioning, the element will malfunctioning as well.

Replacing the timer will fix this issue.
