Gas dryer that kicks the circuit breaker when I turn the timer from off to any time. I don't touch the "start" button. Could the start button be faulty?

COULD BE A DOOR SWITCH A THERMAL FUSE A CONTROL BOARD OR A MOTOR
YOU'LL PROBOBLY NEED TO CALL FOR SERVICE
SOURCE: The dryer won't turn on. The timer is ticking though
Check the door switch with a multimeter or be carefull and pull or cut the wires on the switch then splice them together tape the splice and start the machine or remove the switch and get a replacement from an appliaince parts place or radio shack.
SOURCE: dryer kicks off circuit breaker, pf code is on dryer. now won't let me do anything
pf is for power failure. sounds like You may have a short somewhere. Be careful of electric shock.
SOURCE: Dryer Won't Start
Make sure it has power. Then:Check the door switch.
A little lever sticking down through top right of door opening. If it is
not there you will need new door switch(sometimes the little lever
breaks off). If it is there and does not click when you press it in you
need a new door switch. if it clicks when you close the door
then you have a bad thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is found by taking
the back of the dryer off. The fuse is an oblong white plastic piece
with 2 wires attached.

SOURCE: Clothes Dryer tripping house circuit breaker
If it is breaking the main circuit of the house there is something wrong. It should throw the breaker to the dryer only. It sounds like you are having a problem with a short between the main breaker and sub panel in the house. Is there any way you can move the breaker in the panel to a different place on the same panel to see if it is that circuit only. If not check the outlet and the plug on the dryer and make sure the wiring is connected correctly.
