I have a Dlink router that allows all the computers in my house to connect wirelessly and directly through ethernet cables to the internet. However, it wont allow my Xbox 360 to connect to Xbox Live. I can connect it if I run the ethernet cable straight from the modem to the Xbox though. However, that disables all the computers in the house from connecting to the internet so either I can be on the computer or Xbox Live...my roommates are frustrated by this when they need to use the computer. I know I need to open the ports and such but I dont know how to do that or even how to get to my routers configuration in the Internet Explorer Window. Can I get a step by step on how to do this? Thanks!

Actually, just about any newer router will do the job. You can either connect the Xbox console via the Ethernet port on the back or through the Xbox Wireless Network Adapter which you can find at any video game store.
The ethenet cable is the cheaper option as it will only cost you about $3 but your Xbox will need to be close to your computer. The WiFi adapter is about $50 and will allow you to use your Xbox 360 on Xbox Live in other rooms of your house.
reset the router the make sure ur firewall is set to low if that does not work go into ur modems settings open internet browser type192.168.1.254 and go to wireless then custom services click in the box scroll to the bottom and select xbox live then u will c another page saying select host open box selxct the bottom one then click enable and try connecting again
Yes you can plug it in directly, i dont think youll need a cross over cable, you can use a router so you can share the connection between several pieces of electronics, if you get a wireless router you wont need ny cables. A router routes data between ether net cable allowing each line access to what ever is on the network.
the only thing you need for connecting 360 to wireless is an Internet connection, an 802.11G wireless router, and a wifi adapter that connects to your 360. They have these at walmart or any gaming store. I suggest giving your 2-Wire back to ATT! NOT QUALITY. Especially for gaming. I myself prefer my box to be hard wired as lag is far less. BUT..for wifi Get a Linksys Router and XBox brand wifi adapter for 360. Also google xbox connect. Instead of paying for LIVE
Motorola WR850G router may fail to connect to xbox live after update to firmware 6.1.4. I was able to correct the problem. My solution was
Go in xbox >> network config >> IP and use Static option. Set the xbox to an IP in the range allowed by your router configuration. The router IP config range is found in the router config web >> Lan section. Then I set my router config >> Routing >> DMZ IP Address setting to the xbox ip I just assigned to my xbox. Restart router using the restart button on the Basic page of router config. Restart your xbox and attempt to login to xbox live. This solved my problem.
As a side note, on the xbox networking test page, the xbox live status message will allows show they are aware of a problem with xbox live login. This is a lie. For that reason I postponed trying to fix my router problem thinking it was an xbox issue, it is not. Once you finally connect to xbox live you will still notice this incorrect message remains.
