Question about GE Zoneline AZ38H12DAD Split System Air Conditioner

Short Cycling I have a Zoneline 2100 Series that short cyles. It will kick on...fan and compressor, run for a while, then the compressor will shut off and the fan will continue to run for a period of time and then shut off. The unit will be off for a few mins and then the fan kicks on and later the compressor starts up again. It basically does this in heat mode as well. I changed the thermostat out today, thinking that might be the problem but it was not. It will heat and cool properly while it is in operation.

COMPRESSORS HAVE AN INTERNAL T-STAT TO PROTECT THE WINDINGS ... SOME THING IS CAUSING YOUR COMPRESSOR TO RUN "HOT" THIS WILL KICK "IN & OUT" THE COMPRESSOR DURING COLLING OPERATION AND HEAT MODE (IF IT IS A HEAT-PUMP). 1ST THING TO EASILY CHECK IS THE CONDENSOR "OUT-SIDE" COIL. (CLEN BOTH WHILE YOU ARE AT IT). THESE FANS PULL THE AIR IN AND A BLOW OUT THE COIL .... ALL THE DIRT WILL BE ON THE INSIDE. 2ND THING IS THE FAN ITSEL OVER HEATING AN TURNING "OFF" ON ITS OWN "BUILT-IN POTECTION T-STAT". THIS WILL GIVE YOU THE IRRATIC OPERATION YOU ARE DESCRIBEING. I TEND TO THINK IT IS YOUR FAN MOTOR ... EASY TEST. TURN "OFF" EVERYTHING BUT THE FAN. SET IT FOR MANUAL "RUN ALL THE TIME" POSITION. THE FAN SHOULD NOT KICK OFF !!! IF IT DOES YOU FOUND THE PROBLEM. IF IT DOES TURN OFF IT CAN BE A WEAK CAPACITOR. UNITS VARY ON WETHER THE CAPACITOR IS FOR COMPRESSOR/FAN OR HAS A SEPERATE CAPACITOR FOR EACH. CAPACITORS ARE NOT EXPENSIVE. HOPE THAT CAN NARROW YOUR PROBLEM DOWN

I have found that my unit has a 2 min delay module inside the outdoor unit and it was bad which made the unit cycle on and off or just not at all . I fixed that myself after finding the part and it was simple to do .

Model# 253.61821014 compressor keeps kicking off

Feel the top of the compressor is it hot? Usually when a compressor will start and stop this is called short cycling and it is caused by a defective start relay, overload and capacitor. Sometimes it it cause by a defective fan which when this happens all parts including a new fan must be replaced

KF9000e. Why does compressor cycle at short intervals?

Yes. due to low rpm of fan motor in the condensor copil. or dirty condensor coil. I If so, replace fan capacitor.
If all good, check the seating of condensor set. It needs minimum 2mtrs open space for air throw. If not due to overheat compressor gets short cycling on and off.

Stat issues with GE Zoneline

Your coils on the outside unit may need cleaning. When they get dirty, air cannot flow through them to remove heat from the refrigerant. When this happens pressure increases until it trips a safety and shuts the unit down.
It won't run again until the pressure drops to a safe level. Also check your drain line..Make sure it's dripping. If not it's clogged and that will trip the safety switch not allowing water to back up

My inside and outside unit turn on fine, out side fan and compressor running good, inside blowing cool air, about four minutes after that, out side unit shutoff, no humming, nothing.

Are you heating or cooling? When the outdoor unit shuts off how does it come back on. Or are you saying that the outdoor unit is short cycling off and on

Compressor appears to kick in, runs for short time

It sounds like your unit may have a bad run capacitor or start capacitor and relay. Low voltage will also cause this problem. First you need to make sure that you have the full rated voltages at the unit, if you do, then, have the run and start capacitors checked out and the start relay.

Ac clicking on and off not cooling the house

sounds like the compressor is 'short-cycling,' i.e. runs for a little bit then goes off and keeps repeating the cycle - hence the term 'short-cyling.'

The most common cause of this is is 'low on refrigerant,' which is easily fixed by adding some refrigerant.

This usually takes a Service Tech because you will need gauges, refrigerant and technical knowledge.

good luck!
