On powering up from stand by the display reads 'x hold' pressing any other button on machine or remote has no effect at all. please help!!!
This is the child lock feature, to stop unwanted use of the unit. Using your remote control, hold down 'enter' and 'return' until a message is displayed.
Okay so this is kind of old, but I imagine there's still plenty of people using these, as there's been little innovation in the range of set top boxes since then. Would still be using my old TiVo if I could but need an upgrade to make it work with the supplied EPG.
Anyway, I just wanted to say this is not the entire solution to this issue. My Panasonic DMR-nnn (haha string of x is profanity on fixya) recorder just suffered this issue last night out of the blue, with unit in standby so I couldn't access anything. I think my toddler knows more about it than he's saying just quietly. I read on another forum somewhere a solution that eventually worked. So I will post it here for anyone like me, who's searching for an answer. The solution said that if holding <OK> and <RETURN> didn't work, try pressing <RETURN> first before trying the trick. It did take about three tries after that, but I eventually worked it out. Basically you need to have it so it actually says "X HOLD" on the screen I think, and then hold <OK> and <RETURN> for a few seconds only, until it goes from the screen. I had mistakenly thought I wasn't holding it for long enough, so tried 30 seconds, long after "X HOLD" had been and gone, and it still didn't work. Also possibly didn't work as it was recording on both tuners at the time. Also wanted to note that more may be on the LCD screen than just "X HOLD", mine had red 1 & 2, and copy lit up. I actually wondered if maybe I didn't have the same issue, and maybe just everything was lighting up on the screen, as I knew I hadn't put child lock on, and I'm the only adult here.
