When the picture turns to black you can see little red dots in the picture. Im not sure what the white wash and orbiter does. Im not sure how long to keep white wash and orbiter on for. Does this get rid of the red dots? Ive lost my guide for the t.v. I hope this will get fixed as the t.v. is only about 2 years old. Hi. I have an LG 42PC3D and have the exact problem you describe. I'm looking around, trying to figure it out.
This problem (known as sparkles) can be cured by adjusting the ramp control on the Y-Sustain board. If this does not cure the dots then there is a software remedy for the control board which an LG repair centre could fix. Failing that a replacement board is required. The orbitor & whitewash are like screen savers to help to prevent a screen burn from a permanently displayed image.
This worked on my LG 42PC1D after i read a post on here. I removed the back, take care when the back comes off not to damage it,its very thin. Locate the two adjustable pods numbered VR2 and VR3,if you go from the middle of the tv towards the left its roughly half way across and half way down. They are little blue squares with a yellow star screw in the middle, written on the board beside VR3 is SETUP and beside VR2 is SETDN.There are actually three of these, the third one is located just to the right behind silver bracket for holding on back of tv. I marked positions of VR2 and VR3 with a marker pen to know where factory settings were.Turned VR3 clockwise as far as it would go.VR2 didnt seem to do anything. The other one behind bracket distorted colors so i put it back to factory setting.I have checked black screen at night with lights out,There's no red mist at all,in fact i would say picture is better now than its ever been.Ive attached an image of two of the pods.Hope this helps.

I have the same problem. Any solutions on how to fix the problem.
Any easy (or cheap) solutions out there?
I too have the red sparkles and now my channels seem to not stay programed. I kept blaming the dog for sleeping on the remote. I can reprogram the tv for channels but then the next day it is gone again.
The Red dots are getting worse.
*I have red blotches on the top and bottom right part of the screen. Also, the set sometimes "retains" written passages on the screen.I've tried "whitewash" without success.
