Sony cfd-8 boombox randomly skips

I just inherited a good sounding Sony boombox from neighbor. It randomly skips. I have tried various CDs. I noticed it is kind of dusty inside the CD cavity. Is that why and what can I do to prevent skipping? Thanks for your time and response! Julie

Since my post, I purchased a phillips disc cleaner and ran it. It skips less often, but does continue to skip. Again- thanks for helping here- Julie

It was reccommended that I get a laser cleaner- (I had already tried one and it has not resolved the problem yet.) I was hoping to continue persuing an answer that will help.

Gently dust if out with a soft brush Then get a CD Lens cleaner disk and run it. Should do the job.

You did not say but I assume the skipping is whilst the box it on a table top?
But you of course should expect a little skipping if you are playing while you are er- skipping ;-)
A laser clean is really I meant, although disc cleaner too.

An electrical surge fried my CFD-676 with CDs in the reader. How can I get the CDs out of the box?

There should be a small tiny round hole on the front. Get a paper clip and straighten it out then push it through the hole until you feel the door open.

We have a CD that somehow is stuck inside the Sony CFD-646 Boombox. My daughter went to take out the CDs that were in the 3-CD tray, and one CD somehow is now inside the machine. The strange thing is...

Tilt it forward, eject the tray, and shake the box and see if it falls out.

The CD starts to play and then stops and it makes a static noise. It is also random at the point at which it stops playing. Have tried multiple CDs.

I would try a dust cleaner can and spray inside to clean; also get a cd cleaner hopefully you can get one with brushes on it and see if that does the trick. you can even go to sony website and get answers.

My CFD-Z501 won't play a disc. I get the message "no disc"

Try to use CD/DVD clening disk ($6 in Walmart). Or simply use cotton swab (Q-TIP) and 40 % ethyl alcohol (vodka) or 50-70% isopropyl alcohol (NO ACETONE), depending on your budget.
Also check if discs are inserted correctly and not damaged/durty etc. Also check your discs. Some CD-players dont accept burned CDs (copyed). I believe Sony is not the case, just a suggestion.
If cleaning wont help lens might be damaged.
