They both use the same speakers, my personal opinion deems they are both the same. However the second SoundDock charges via USB pin, so it is future proof for future iPods.

My wife had this problem with iPhone 4S after updating to ios6 on a Sony xdr-ds12ip docking station. Sound would play on iPhone off the docking station, but once it was docked no sound would come through the docking station speakers (docking station radio works fine, as did the iPhone before the iOS update).
Fixed it by powering down both the iPhone and the docking station at the mains, gave it 2-3 minutes and then powered on the docking station and then the phone. Placed the iPhone in the docking station and voila the sound comes out of the speakers now.
sounds like the situation is with the AC adapter detection. try to restore your BIOS defaults and update BIOS if applicable. Test another AC adapter. If that fails, most likely, this is with the motherboard. You may either get a new board, or just continue to charge it using the docking station.
I have the same problem and tried down loading the lates drivers without any change. It was working fine. I was in the middle of listening to music when it started.
I had this problem for the pat two days. Believe it or not I took my Ipod touch of the dock. Shut the power off to the Ipod to reset it. Also the power to the docking station. turned everything back on. Put the Ipod back into the docking station and heard the beep.. and hit play and it was working again. Not sure but shutting Ipod off does act like a reset.
Take the docking station back and get a new one. They all work differently, there might be a short, it might be normal for it to do that. another docking station will tell you if its normal, unlikely to get the same fault twice

If your video was working fine before then it might be a corrupted file driver of your docking station. No need to worry with your computer because it is not your computer causes the problem. It is your docking station.
You may try reinstalling your docking station software using the cd that came with it.You need to connect your system to your docking station when reinstalling the software. if the issue persist after installing the software. Please check if your docking station still in warranty and check their part replacement policy.
