Direct TV box is connected to TV, but I have to have RCA cables connected from Direct box to my stereo to receive sound. Even when I hook up a dvd to the TV I have to run the sound to my stereo. The sound from the TV is scratchy, like broken speakers, And I never had the sound up high on the TV. Maybe close to 40.
It sounds like by connecting multiple devices to your TV and getting the same audio symptom, that it would probably point to the TV as being the issue, maybe a speaker problem.
As the alternative, hooking up your devices to a surround system is a good solution. However your TV has a Optical Output, so I suggest using an optical cable from the TV to your surround, that way you don't need to run RCA cables from each device and the surround system can stay set on one source ( you won't have to keep changing the input for each device). This will keep the annoyance of your bad TV speakers to a minimum.
First check all your wiring with it turned on wiggle the connections and you mite find you have a dodgey plug somewhere or a break in the wiring

Ran into the same problem with this DVD player and my LG tv. Try this:
Open the DVD tray, with the DVD tray open press the HDMI select button until the proper resolution for your tv is illuminated, put the DVD back in, close the tray and try again. Simple fix -- worked beautifully for me.
Good luck

Place a warranty service request anyway. Many times with something that fails that close to the warranty period, the company will still cover it. If you get no where with the initial rep, speak to a supervisor +/or manager. This is too close to the warranty end and you should be covered. Be nice but firm in your disappointment with the product and you may get warranty service.
Keep us posted.

This is a common problem on these plasma TV's. The problem resides in
the high voltage boards known as the X and Y Sustain boards.. You can
purchase them here for a very reasonable price:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/Y-SUSTAIN-FOR-42-PLASMA-TV-PN-6871QYH036A-p/sku9510.htm
The above link is to a Y-SUS board. The X-Sus board is often the 2nd cause of failure and can be found here:
http://www.discount-merchant.com/X-SUSTAIN-6871QZH041B-6870QZE017D-6871QZH052D-p/sku9509.htm
To
test which board is failing, you need to check voltage input to the
YSUS board first... Input should be 120V from Power supply, output
should be above 250V.. Do this test with XSUS disconnected. IF 250+V
exists, then XSUS is damaged. If not, then the YSUS is the faulty part.
